Is anyone else super excited for 2017? I know I am. 2016 has been one of those years where I've really learned a lot about myself. I've become more self-aware, more driven and more in tune with what I want in life. I might not be where I want to be in life but I know I'm on my way there.
When a new year starts, I like to reflect on the year that has been and look forward to the next. I don't celebrate New Year itself but I am a huge believer in that a fresh start does a person a world of good. Making a change for the right reason is never a bad thing in my eyes and New Year is the best time to do this!

Every year, I make a new list of goals of what I'd like to achieve in the next year but this year I definitely want to track my progress more and maybe even set myself smaller goals every month. Here's a look at my main goals for 2017:

1. Focus on my fitness. My dedication to fitness in 2016 has been a bit topsy-turvy. To start 2017, I've signed up to the latest Tone It Up challenge, aim to be in the gym at least 3 times a week and will be joining my local rugby team's dance team. If these three combined don't increase my energy levels, I don't know what will! I'd eventually like to add in more dance classes in different styles and start stretching on a daily basis too.

2. Get a full-time job. Currently I work part-time and am getting additional hours here and there but I want to get something more concrete so I can save up to move away. I've been applying for as many jobs as humanely possible but it's a waiting game but fingers crossed something will come up soon!

3. Take control of my finances. Recently, I've been spending and not saving. In 2017, I'd like to set myself a budget and track my spending. This means less trips to Costa and Boots on my dinner breaks and more packed lunches and using what I already have. I need to start looking into more ways to save/make money so if you have any tips, please let me know!

4. Be as organised and time-efficient as possible. As you all know, I am a huge fan of having a planner/diary but I want to use it more effectively. I need to binge less on TV box sets and try to use my spare time to write blog posts, take photos or schedule tweets. This means scheduling tasks like I would a workout or a shift at work. This is the year that I become the master of time!

5. Stress less. This links in with my previous goal as the more organised I am with my time, the more time I have to myself to relax. I'd really love to recap French (I did it at GCSE but have forgotten most of it), to be able to bake more often and to read more books. My aim is to finish a book a fortnight and hopefully review a few of them too!

6. Visit the cinema and theatre more often. My local theatre is reopening soon after shutting for over a year for a refurbishment. When it reopens, I want to see every musical and dance show that comes if I can get cheap tickets. Dance and muscial theatre are two of my main passions in life. I also want to see more films when they get released so the cinema might become my second home! Immersing yourself in a musical or a movie for a couple of hours really does take you somewhere else.

7. Live a minimalist life. After reading Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying, I was inspired to have a huge clearout last year. However, I recently bought her second book, Spark Joy and have started to think that I wasn't ruthless enough the first time round. I want to get rid of everything that I don't use or that I don't need in order to live a cleaner, healthier lifestyle.

8. Pass my journalism qualification finally! Recently I resat two exams and failed one so now I have just one media law to pass as well as shorthand. I need to pass these exams to be able to able for journalism jobs and I intend to in the spring. I will pass them if it kills me!

9. Make the most of social media but take a break from it. I love social media, Twitter and Instagram in particular, and I like to think I know how to use them. I've loved making lots of blogger friends online and can't wait to meet up with many of them but there comes a time when you spend too much time online. I'd like to take just one night a week away from my laptop and phone and see what else I can do with that time: journal, pamper night, watch a movie. Maybe it will be just one night a month?!

10. Be braver and say yes to opportunities. My confidence has improved in the past year or so but there's always more improvement to be made. I still turn down opportunities because I can't be bothered or feel anxious. This year, I want to overcome those feelings and say yes to any opportunity that I feel will benefit me.

Have you made any New Year resolutions yet? Let me know by leaving a comment below!

  1. It's great to see some positive reflections on 2016 at the start of your post, Sian! So many people have had tough years this time around, and it's fab to read that you've grown as a person this year and learned a lot about yourself! Go you! Saving and taking control of my finances is definitely something that I want to do next year as well, I'll hopefully be moving out permanently from the family home so got to save, save, save! I'm sure you'll have a really successful year, seems like you have your head screwed on just right with your 2017 goals!

  2. I love this post, I need to start working on fitness too and definitely agree with the take a break from social media for a night! Make it a night to pamper yourself!

  3. I keep hearing amazing things about the Marie Kondo book, I'm going to have to read it! Also I love that you have realistic goals, people are so quick to go for really unattainable resolutions which I don't think is very beneficial at all! Going to the cinema more sounds like something I should do too hahah.

Lovely post and here's to a happy 2017!

  4. Absolutely love this post! Same as you I need to stress less and so many others. I hope I can stick to them this year. I just popped a post up about my resolutions lol or just life goals in general. I like the idea of doing monthly goals! Xxxxxx

  5. I love your resolutions and I really relate to the last one about taking opportunities. I need to get out of my comfort zone and say yes more! x

  6. Great post sweetie! I would happily jump on board with a few of these!! I absolutely love the idea of visiting the cinema and the theatre more often. I haven't been to either for so long, which is such a shame because I love them both when I do! 😍
