Since going cruelty-free, I’ve really been taking the time to discover new brands by just buying a couple of items to see how I get along with them. e.l.f. have always been a brand that I’ve been aware of but I’ve never been keen on buying beauty items online. I’m old-fashioned I know, but I like to see them in-store first! You get a better look at colours and quality in a store!

I’ve also never really heard any of my friends preach about them as a brand so I wasn’t sure what to expect from them. Once I had seen that they were launching in Superdrug, tonnes of bloggers seemed super excited by this partnership and I then discovered lots of reviews by them!

Off I went on my weekly visit to my local Superdrug (yes, I have a weekly visit to Superdrug just like I do a weekly food shop in Asda!) and was thrilled to see the beautiful display! It was tucked right near the back of the store next to the MUA stand. I was glad that the display was fully stocked because I hate looking through a messy display! After spending quite a while browsing the display (I think the shop assistant was either ready to offer me a job because I was looking at it for so long!), I picked out these goodies:

e.l.f. Mascara and Eyelash Primer, £4.50

I genuinely never even knew mascara primer existed! I’ll admit I am a believer now! I applied this on underneath my mascara and left it to dry for a minute or so (if you don’t wait for it to dry, it comes off as you’re applying your mascara). I’ve applied less mascara since using this; I now use two coats instead of three. And if you curl your eyelashes before using it, you might get away with just one coat of your regular mascara if it’s a decent one!

e.l.f. Matte Lip Colour in Natural and Tea Rose, £4.50 each

Matte lips are so on-trend right now. My first impression just looking at them was definitely a positive one. I like that the shade is shown at the end of the lipstick which is super helpful when you’re in a rush in a morning! I also love that they are retractable AND if you pull out the coloured tip, you actually get a sharpener!

The only negative I have is that if you have dry lips like I do, these are so pigmented that they really do show up the dryness. Since first use, I made sure I exfoliated my lips properly and applied a layer of Vaseline to my lips first to act as a primer! I wouldn’t say they were long-lasting but they lasted a few hours for work!

e.l.f. Baked Highlighter in Moonlight Pearls, £5.00

I’d say this was the worst product I picked up. I will only be using this during the day for work because it is so incredibly light. I had to layer it up four times to even get it to show up on camera! I will admit I tried it dry but apparently with water, it requires less layers!

As you can see, it’s not an incredibly bright highlighter, hence why I mostly use it for daytime. It does seem to last all day though but I guess it depends on what you want to use it for!

All in all, I was pretty impressed with what I bought. The primer was definitely a steal for £4.50 and the lipsticks are supposedly better in the darker colours so I might give those a whirl!
