Yep, we’re at that halfway point of the year, and another month is done and dusted. I’m a little behind on blog content, so this post is a little later than usual. However, let’s get stuck in with my June 2025 spending diaries. Spoiler alert: I had a good month!
CLOTHING
BUDGET = £50.00, SPENT = £42.60
I could’ve sworn that I’d spent more than this, but I’m thrilled that I’m under budget here. It seems I only went to Matalan and M&S and got three vests, three T-shirts and a sweatshirt for less than £50. Hooray for sale shopping! Did I need any of these items? Probably not, apart from the Spice Girls T-shirt. Did I spend hundreds on clothes? No, so I’m taking that as a win.
COFFEE SHOPS
BUDGET = £60.00, SPENT = £55.58
This is 11 coffee shop visits and a £10 gift card for one of them, too. With the gift card, Top Cashback had a promotion on, so I got £2 cashback plus about 8% too. It always seems like a lot, but nowadays, most of the drinks are £4-5 anyway. It’s also been sweltering when I’ve left the house, so they’re mostly frappes, rather than hot drinks, which adds to the cost!
EATING OUT
BUDGET = £60.00, SPENT = £60.05
Again, this is six visits to various eateries, including a trip to Zizzi’s, a Chinese buffet and two trips to Taco Bell (my vice right now). Considering I had three day trips out of town and I treated myself to a day out working in town, I’m pretty happy that I only went 5p over budget! These meals were all filling so I really can’t complain.
LOCAL TRANSPORT
BUDGET = £20.00, SPENT = £11.80
Going out of town always means getting the bus back. I also went to Meadowhall before my Sheffield theatre trip, meaning a tram back into the city centre. I’m sure if I didn’t work from home, I’d spend much more on transport, so I’m very lucky in that aspect!
GROCERIES
BUDGET = £15.00, SPENT = £11.40
As I’ve said previously, this is only for snacks that I buy when I’m out and about. These were pre-train snacks on my couple of day trips because I can’t resist an M&S food outlet in a train station! I’ve reduced the amount of snacking I do when I’m at home so this does feel like a proper treat.
BOOKS
BUDGET = £20.00, SPENT = £18.81
I wish I could bring this down to zero, but I’d rather set myself a budget that’s small so I feel less restricted. I bookended the month by buying books, touché. However, I cannot resist a 99p Kindle book, and there were so many good ones in June!
BEAUTY APPOINTMENTS
BUDGET = £45.00, SPENT = £43.50
I had my nails done and my hair cut, and that was it. Initially, I’d planned to have dermaplaning, but I pushed that back to July instead. Getting my nails done every three weeks is my one treat to myself that I’m consistent with. Plus, I only get my hair cut once a quarter for less than £20.
HEALTH + BEAUTY
BUDGET = £40.00, SPENT = £40.11
This is the category that I’m most proud of in my June 2025 spending diaries! It consisted of two Boots trips and one in Superdrug. With Boots, I always take in my five empties and deposit them, so I’m maximising the number of points that I get. I’ve also noticed that Superdrug seems to be more expensive nowadays, which is a shame.
STATIONERY
BUDGET = £40.00, SPENT = £52.66
As soon as I saw my fave, Leaf Lane Studio, was bringing out a new collection, I had to buy something. Also, I fell into Typo and Flying Tiger when I was in Meadowhall. I’m a sucker for a pretty notebook or diary, sue me!
THEATRE TICKETS
BUDGET = £200.00, SPENT = £171.85
This was something I’d been saving for, as I bought seven theatre tickets in June (£133). It also includes buying merch at Six as well as any programmes and drinks I buy in the venue. Because I have nothing planned for July/August, I was happy with this amount.
FUTURE TRAVEL
BUDGET = £0, SPENT = £45.00
I had to book a hotel room for November in Sheffield as I’d forgotten that I’d be travelling to Birmingham the following day for the Maren Morris. Instead of seeing a matinee in Sheffield, travelling back to Hull and then travelling to Birmingham the following day, I’m staying overnight in Sheffield and will just get the train from Sheffield to Birmingham instead. That week will be crazy as I’ll be at a theatre matinee on the Thursday in Sheffield, the Maren Morris concert in Birmingham on the Friday, and then Five in Leeds on the Saturday before getting the train back to Hull on the Sunday! What a crazy week that will be!
AMAZON
BUDGET = £50.00, SPENT = £41.59
I gave myself a £50 budget because I thought I was due a couple of tablets on subscribe and save. Instead, I ordered a new tub of eczema cream and a present for Father’s Day for my dad. Shopping on Amazon is usually a last resort for me, but sometimes, needs must.
MISCELLANEOUS
BUDGET = £50.00, SPENT = £22.75
Miscellaneous this month was another present for my dad, alongside buying myself an Arsenal Women’s Champions League win badge from N5N7. I like to overshoot in this category, just in case something crops up. However, it’s rare that I actually spend a random £50 in a month!
TOTAL BUDGET = £650.00, TOTAL SPENT = £617.70
£32.30 UNDER BUDGET
This is the first time in ages that I’ve been under budget. It’s not a lot, but I’m happy with that for my June 2025 spending diaries. Because I want July and August to be low-spend months, I wanted to get some bigger spends, such as theatre tickets, out of the way in June instead. Luckily for me, the tickets went on sale in June and I grabbed them all on the first day, meaning I got the cheapest tickets!
With fewer plans in July, my budget will be about half of that in my June 2025 spending diaries. I plan to save as much as possible because my big goal for 2025 is to move.
