I’ll admit that I probably watch too much TV but some people like to crochet, some like to drink, and I like to watch TV. These monthly watchlist posts might be pretty same-y but you might find something new. Here’s what I watched in April 2024.
THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR (CHANNEL 4)
This drama was so exciting from start to finish. Was it bonkers and unrealistic? Yes. Was it entertaining and had you hooked? Also yes. I thought the main cast of four were all good but Hugh Dennis’ character was creepy as hell. He was exceptional in that role, even if he was a weirdo!
MR BATES VS THE POST OFFICE (ITV1)
Having worked for the Post Office previously and seeing all the news pieces about the legal cases against Horizon, I wanted to watch the dramatic version. This cast across the board was outstanding. Everything about the Post Office during it pissed me off greatly. These ordinary people deserved better.
GREY’S ANATOMY SEASONS 8-10 (DVD)
I’m slowly getting through my annual rewatch and to me, these are some of the best seasons. In fairness, the season finale of season 10 is the hardest episode for me. Yes, the deaths of Lexie, Mark and Derek are all very sad. However, Cristina leaving is the hardest watch for me. She needed to leave to go onto the bigger and better things that she deserved but she was my favourite character. Meredith is a little lost without her, quite frankly, until she evolves after Derek’s death.
DCC:MTT SEASONS 3-10 (MTV)
Yes, I’m watching every episode yet again but it’s my lunchtime show! This will be my last rewatch for a while as I take a break. I just love to watch the journeys of the cheerleaders as well as their incredible talents. Every season, there are a handful that I think shouldn’t have made the team because I’d prefer a smaller but more excellent squad!
FBI FRANCHISES (SKY WITNESS)
FBI S6, FBI MOST WANTED S5 + FBI INTERNATIONAL S3
As much as I’d love these shows to stop chopping and changing the casts constantly, I do think that the few episodes I’ve seen of each so far have been pretty strong. They’ve allowed different characters to get their own story-centric episodes and that’s always nice to see!
ONE CHICAGO SHOWS (SKY WITNESS)
CHICAGO FIRE S12, CHICAGO PD S11 + CHICAGO MED S9
I’ve only watched the first three episodes of each show and like FBI, I just wish they’d stop switching out characters every season! Personally, I’m happy that most of the Fire and PD OGs are still on the show but Med adds new doctors just about every year. I’m enjoying the new seasons but they’re not gripping me like they used to.
CENTER STAGE (DVD)
Someone mentioned the film on Twitter, I saw it and immediately watched the film again that night. It’s my all-time favourite movie, I must watch it at least twice a year. I grew up watching it every week in fact! It’s cheesy and a bit daft but I always appreciate it when dance movies use (mostly) real dancers! This is one of those films that I quote religiously in life both when watching it and in everyday conversation.
HANNAH MONTANA THE MOVIE (DISNEY+)
Again, I saw all over Instagram that it was the 15th anniversary of the film’s release (god, I’m old) so I just had to watch it! The soundtrack is so great and the storyline is cute and fun. Lucas Till is a great leading man and I wish he’d had bigger roles since then. I actually don’t think I’ve watched him in anything else, other than Taylor Swift’s You Belong With Me music video!
CHALLENGERS (ODEON CINEMA)
When I saw the casting of Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor as well as the tennis plotline, I thought this would be right up my street. Whilst I thought the three of them did great jobs with what they had, I thought the dialogue was a bit haphazard. Maybe it’s just me but I didn’t like the editing either. I’m not a huge fan of the flashback scenes throughout a movie, I’d rather it be chronological. However, I understand it was a tennis metaphor. The music was way too loud in many parts, particularly over parts of the dialogue.
The three leads had chemistry but to say that everyone was saying it was a really sexy film, I expected it to be a bit raunchier! Also, Zendaya looks significantly younger than O’Connor and Faist, which just felt wrong to me. Overall, I gave it three out of five stars. Probably wouldn’t watch it again but it wasn’t horrendous.
That’s a wrap of what I watched in April 2024. I feel like I watched a tonne of TV last month but it’s my lunchtime activity and my nighttime activity! If a hobby keeps you sane and happy, then do it because you want to and enjoy it!
