This month is a very short watchlist because the main TV shows that I watched have between twenty and twenty-four episodes per season! However, I thought I’d still share what I watched in May 2025 in case you’re looking for something to watch yourself.
CHICAGO FIRE SEASONS 4-6
As you all know, the One Chicago universe is my absolute favourite. It does take me a while to watch one season, around a week to ten days. Season six sees one of my favourite characters leave, Gabby Dawson. The writers made her character unbearable towards the end, so in a way, I was glad to see her go. However, I love the show for the drama and less so the romance. Now Gabby is gone, it becomes the Stella Kidd show. Whilst I love her badass firefighter storylines, it feels like we start rehashing some of the same romance plots (lack of trust usually).
Firehouse 51 is always having a fight with the hierarchies of the fire department, too. Every season, it’s a new major plot. However, the further we go on, the more samey it feels. However, I stay for Hermann, Mouch, Cruz and Otis. This quartet brings the comedy! I love it when drama shows include plenty of comedy because it definitely brings some light to some serious storylines.
SVU SEASONS 18-19
I’m getting there, it’s just taking a while. As I said in the intro, SVU seasons are loooong! Most are twenty-two or twenty-four episodes, so it takes time to get through them. I also record them off 5USA, so I tend to only watch a couple of episodes at a time at dinnertime, rather than whizz through half a season in one go. Personally, I love that SVU always feels really current. Many of the cases, especially later on, are inspired by real-life crime cases but done dramatically for the telly, of course.
Season 19 also sees my all-time favourite SVU character depart, ADA Barba, in what I consider an awful ending. He doesn’t die, but he does break the law and decides to resign from his position. It’s just so out of character, and now whenever they bring him back, they’ve turned him into a dodgy, immoral guy! I did like Peter Stone moving across from Chicago Justice (RIP) to SVU, and he’s a very different ADA to Barba. It takes a while for the SVU team to warm to him, but they do in the end.
DCC:MTT SEASONS 3-5
I don’t watch a lot of reality TV (other than OG shows The Hills and Dance Moms). But Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team is the only other show I watch in the genre. Growing up as a dancer, I mostly watch it for the dancing. However, I love the behind-the-scenes content of getting to know the cheerleaders. You might have watched their newer show on Netflix, America’s Sweethearts. Whilst the audition and training camp process is similar, MTT is less documentary-style.
Every season, they focus on a few rookie cheerleaders, and often, you don’t get to see half of them trying out. It’s a show I know A LOT about. I’m talking dance routines, names of the cheerleaders and their tenures, how the DCC operates, and I have an opinion about everyone on the show. It’s finally streaming on Channel 5’s platform, so please binge-watch the show so we can chat in detail!
And that’s a wrap on what I watched in May 2025. I still managed to watch eight series, which is impressive, despite being out of town quite a bit and balancing work and life. I’m sure I’ll continue watching all three shows into June and the rest of summer.
