Autumn is probably my favourite season because I was made for autumnal clothing. The colours are darker, there are more layers, and I love outerwear! I have plenty of autumnal clothing in my wardrobe right now, but there are a few additions I’d like to make. Here’s my autumn 2026 capsule wardrobe wishlist.
Loose-fitting T-shirts in multiple colours
Currently, I have a bunch of fitted plain T-shirts from Uniqlo that are great quality. Sometimes, you just want something a little more loose-fitting. I’ve found some unisex options in Uniqlo and men’s oversized T-shirts from M&S (they have a striped version too, which is right up my street). I much prefer the sports material ones, where they’re almost neoprene-lined with a cotton outer layer. Perfect for sweaty girlies! The aim is to get a few in classic colours, so I can wear them with every single bottom-half item.
A satin camisole or going-out top
I’m unsure whether a camisole would fit my whole style or figure, but I’d like to at least try one first! If not, I need to get a going-out top for my wardrobe. Whilst I don’t exactly go on nights out, I have a few theatre press nights this season and want to feel a little dressier for the occasion. It has to be a top that I can dress up with a pair of heeled boots and a small handbag, but also dress down with a cardigan and trainers. If it’s not versatile, I’m not adding it in!
Drawstring-waist trousers/jeans
This is a vague category, because I’m so fussy when I buy trousers now. I’m done with uncomfortable buttons and zips, and an elasticated or drawstring waist is much more my vibe. I’ve got some options in my wardrobe already, but they are on their last legs. I’d like some dressier options too. Because I’m petite, I don’t really like wide-legged trousers, so I need more of a straight-leg style. Whilst I’m okay with skinny fits being out, not everyone suits a barrel or wide-leg trouser, especially when you’re a smaller frame!
Black leather trainers
I demand that I find the perfect pair of black leather trainers this season! I’ve been searching for so long that I’m at the point where I’d just like to design my own. They’re dressier than lighter-coloured trainers, and much more appropriate for winter. White shoes = dirt, especially in autumn, and I don’t have the energy to be cleaning them every day! Black still shows dirt, but at least I can still wear them when it’s raining.
A pair of black loafers
As particular as I am about footwear, the only reason I’m after some loafers is to dress up an outfit, mostly for job interviews! They need to be pleather, preferably not patent, and have a comfortable sole. I find some of these new styles a bit chunky for my little feet, so something lighter would work for me. I’ll be sure to check out my trusted Hotter website for classic styles, but I’ll keep an eye out on the high street too. I’m not willing to pay loads for them, because I don’t think I’ll wear them too often.
Black and tan winter boots
I’ll be honest, I don’t even know what styles I’m specifically looking for! I’m happy for this to be the largest part of my autumn capsule budget, because good footwear can carry you for years. However, I won’t spend a lot just for the sake of it. My main priorities are a good tread, a classic style, lightweight but durable and a pair in black and tan. My previous boots have all gotten the wear out of them, but they’ve all just fallen apart! I tend not to go for knee-high styles, but anything mid-calf or just above the ankle tends to work for me. Right now, I think I’d like one flat pair and another with a small heel, comfortable enough to wear for a few hours.
An autumn-themed coloured cardigan
I already have cardigans in black and pink, as well as my recently purchased grey one. I’m thinking maybe burgundy or navy, or will that look like a school uniform too much? Either way, it’s to wear with fitted tops and vests when it’s not too cold outside. I might be a little inspired by Hannah in Off Campus, because her outfits look very normal!
A leather bomber or biker jacket
This is an item that I’ve had on my list for the past couple of years, but I can’t seem to find the right one. I’m okay with buying pleather, but equally, I don’t want to spend £100+ on it either. The pleather has to be soft and buttery, and it has to just fit right. Too many jackets are a cropped style, which I don’t understand! A black leather jacket is ideal as it’s classic.
And that’s a wrap on my autumn 2026 capsule wardrobe wishlist. I try not to buy too many pieces each season, because I like my wardrobe to be year-long, rather than seasonal. My autumn capsule is always a lot bigger, because you’re adding in long-sleeved tops, sweatshirts, knitwear, and jackets/coats. You need more options in the UK than in other places!
