Whilst I see most tours in Hull, I love to go to various theatres in Yorkshire to see productions that don’t come here. In fact, Sheffield is probably my favourite place to see shows because the tickets are some of the cheapest if you can get in early! Here are 8 shows to see in Yorkshire in 2024.
WHITE CHRISTMAS – SHEFFIELD CRUCIBLE
This will be the first show that I see in 2024 and it might seem silly to see a Christmas show after the fact! However, I enjoy travelling to Sheffield to see their winter production and I’ve never seen White Christmas on stage before. It’s obviously a classic movie musical so I’m interested to see it on stage. By the looks of the reviews so far, I’m in for a real treat!
OLIVER – LEEDS PLAYHOUSE
Again, the reviews have been excellent and it’ll always be a musical that holds a special place in my heart. I’ve sung songs from the show in productions myself as a soloist and as a group and it was one of the first musicals I ever saw growing up. It’s rare that it’s on stage so I knew I had to see this production of it, especially as it’s only over in Leeds.
FANTASTICALLY GREAT WOMEN – LEEDS GRAND
Having seen the show in 2022 in Sheffield, I was surprised at just how much I enjoyed the show. The songs are incredibly catchy and the cast is small but mighty! I went into the show knowing nothing about it, including the book. I’m looking forward to seeing it a couple of years after with a brand-new cast.
WICKED – BRADFORD ALHAMBRA
It’s been years since I’ve seen Wicked but it was only the second show I’ve ever seen in London. I’ve actually already bought tickets as a gift for Mother’s Day for my mum so it’ll be a surprise for her in a couple of months. It’s one of the few musicals that we both love so it will be a nice day out in Bradford!
BONNIE AND CLYDE – BRADFORD ALHAMBRA
Another show I saw last year was Bonnie and Clyde at the Arts Theatre in London. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack with Jeremy Jordan for years and was excited to see it translated on stage. The songs are epic and the cast were insane. However, I’m really hoping that the script has been edited because it was basically non-existent before.
SIX – SHEFFIELD LYCEUM
It’s been a while since I’ve seen Six and if you know me at all, you’ll know it’s my favourite show. I’ve yet to see this cast either so I’m always excited to see someone’s new take on one of the wives. I’m hoping it’ll come back to Hull at some point but I’m willing to travel to Sheffield to see it again.
ALADDIN – BRADFORD ALHAMBRA
Aladdin has been on my watchlist for years, especially since I missed the last West End production of it. After watching Mamma Mia I Have a Dream on ITV, I’m mostly excited to see Desmonda Cathabel because she was clearly the best vocalist on the show. She’s a superstar and I cannot wait to see her career flourish.
ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES – YORK GRAND OPERA HOUSE
Another show that I never saw in London is Only Fools and Horses. Of course, I’ve always loved the TV. Yes, it’s a bit dated but most of it is still pretty funny. I thought the idea of making it into a musical was ridiculous initially. However, after seeing clips from West End Live and various TV shows, it looks like a fun show!
And that’s a wrap on my 8 shows to see in Yorkshire in 2024 list. I’m sort of cheating because I already have a ticket for a couple of them. I just like to get organised! What other shows should I add to my list?
