I feel like April has been one of those months where I’ve had to squish a lot of activities in. However, when I look at my calendar, it was only the last week of the month that was super busy! It doesn’t help that I’ve been feeling under the weather for most of the month, too. With that being said, here’s my April 2026 in review, featuring a work update and a handful of theatre visits.
A WORK UPDATE
For those who don’t know, I’ve been balancing freelancing and working part-time in a Post Office since October. It’s a job that I did for five years before, and I also balanced running a business, a blog and a part-time job before too. I’m still so unsure of what I’m doing with my life/career/business, so it’s better to have a steady income. However, my contract was only 12 hours, but I’m now switching with one of my colleagues onto a 21-hour contract. Instead of two six-hour shifts a week, I’ll be doing three seven-hour shifts, which gives me four free days per week (unless I get overtime). I also get my shifts about a month in advance, which gives me plenty of time to plan my life out!
A BUSY EASTER WEEKEND
Good Friday has been rugby day in our house for about 25 years, so my dad and I spend the day watching lots of rugby league. My team, Hull FC, didn’t fare so well on the day. It’s always nice to spend the day doing nothing but watching sport, though.
After that, we spent Saturday at my grandma’s house trying to declutter her garage. We’d planned on decluttering the shed and loft as well. However, we ran out of room in the skip after just a couple of hours! My parents ended up getting another skip a fortnight later to sort out the shed and loft that time, but we’re nearly at the stage of selling her house.
THE JOYOUS TAX SEASON
It’s that time of year when the new tax year begins. I’ve got the minimum wage increase at work, and I managed to get my business taxes filed on Easter Monday. It’s become a tradition of mine to get them sorted as early as possible. I know that I’m likely to forget them until the last minute. This way, I know exactly what my tax bill is going to be, and it gives me time to save up for it. Paying it is another matter. HMRC can wait until the last minute for the payment!
ARSENAL’S END TO THE SEASON
It’s an indifferent time to be an Arsenal fan. The men look to be cocking it up in the Premier League, and the women might be too far behind in the WSL, so it looks like Man City will be doing the men’s and women’s league double this season. However, both the men’s and women’s sides are in the semi-finals of the Champions League, so there’s still a chance of some silverware. I’d personally rather have a league trophy, as European competitions are basically just a bigger cup competition. However, it would be the men’s first and the women’s third if they could lift the trophy. I also love that Arsenal Women are the only women’s side from the UK to lift the trophy!
APRIL THEATRE TRIPS
I’ve been on two out-of-town theatre trips this month, and they’ve both been belters. I started off with a trip to Bradford for my first visit on the Waitress tour. It’s one of my all-time favourite musicals, and this new tour brought back all of my love for the show. I even saw Emma Lucia debut as Jenna, and she was outstanding. I’m also a big fan of Dan Partridge’s Dr Pommater; he’s so great in a comedic role!
Next up, I travelled to York to see Legally Blonde for the second time on this tour. This time, I got to see Hannah Lowther as Elle, and she is magnificent. I also thoroughly enjoyed Amber Davies’ performance last time, so it’s amazing to see two talented queens take on this role. No need to compare them when they’re both exceptional!
GETTING BETTER AT BUDGETING
This was the first month in forever that I felt like I had control of my budget. I’ll share my spending diaries next week and go into more detail. However, I’m proud of how much I’ve been able to save, and haven’t gone excessive on my spending in April either. I put myself on a clothing ban, which I stuck to, apart from buying four pairs of socks in M&S. I consider these replacements, though, as I did throw three pairs away! I’m also trying my best to get through all of my beauty products, even though I have bought some bits and bobs throughout the month.
And that’s my April 2026 in review, all done. It doesn’t seem like a busy month on paper, but it definitely felt like it! May is looking to be a little quieter until the end of the month, so I’m excited to get to relax a little bit.
