Get To Know Me: Magazines

As a very-nearly-qualified journalist (2 weeks until my NCTJ course is over!), I think it’s fair to say that as much as I love to write, I equally love to read. With my course being so jam-packed, the only books I’m reading are textbooks! After my previous post about my favourite books, I decided to focus on another form of reading that is close to my heart, magazines.
Ever since I could read, I’ve loved magazines. I think the first one I ever got was a Tots TV mag that focused on a different animal every week. Then I discovered girly magazines and started to collect them: Sabrina the Teenage Witch, S Club Style, the Tracy Beaker mag, Girl Talk, Mizz, Angelina Ballerina, you name it, I bought it!
When I left school and started to think about my journalism dreams, I started to read fashion magazines. I found Look, More, Teen Vogue, Seventeen, Cosmo, Glamour. I stayed away from the glossy monthlies like Vogue and Tatler; we had them in the college library and I was always annoyed by the lack of articles and stories and annoyed with the amount of adverts in them!
Last year, I stopped buying the fashion and celebrity weeklies because they often print fabricated stories plus I have no idea who half of the reality stars are in them (I don’t watch TOWIE, Geordie Shore or Made In Chelsea). I continued buying the fashion monthlies because I love the regular features in them and they tend to get quality cover stars too.
I also discovered fitness magazines; I’ve always tried to keep fit but only in the past year or so have I really started to focus on my health and well-being too. I buy these mags to give me new workout ideas, tips and advice!
