Who says we have to wait until the New Year to completely reset your life? Restarting your year just before summer fully kicks in is a great time to start afresh. However, you might not even know where to start. That’s why I’ve compiled this blog post of exactly how to have a mid-year reset. I’d recommend doing this over a full week or a weekend because it’s far too much for one day!
Evaluate the first six months
Before you start looking ahead, you first need to reflect on the first six months of the year. Start by looking at each area of your life (career/business, finances, health, relationship, friends, family, hobbies, etc) and rate them out of 10. You can do this as a list or in the Wheel of Life. Jot down why you’ve given them that number too. Then, think about ways to increase that number, even just by one point.
Look back at your annual goals
Have you achieved any of them, do you need to adjust some, or do you want to get rid of some altogether? Now is a great time to see if you still want to focus on the same things that you did at the start of the year! I look back at my yearly goals every month when setting monthly goals. That’s why I reset mine at the end of Q1 because my original goals just weren’t aligned with me anymore. It’s 100% okay to admit defeat on some of them and change it up! Goals are personal to you.
Refocus on habits
Sure, big goals are great but how do you actually achieve them? By implementing action steps. Think about what you can do daily, weekly. and monthly in order to reach your goals. They also feel much more manageable too so celebrate those smaller wins. Track them on an app, a spreadsheet, or in your bullet journal. My simple healthy habits are what I aim for every day but it’s okay to skip a habit. Just try not to fall too off-track!
Take a deep dive into your budget
Finances, ew, I know. However, if you feel like your money is disappearing quicker than ever, it’s time to track them. Get yourself a spreadsheet or track it all on your banking apps. Categorise your spending and see if you can cut back anywhere. Is there a certain time of the month that you spend on certain things? Do you need to cut back on eating out, coffee shop, or clothing? Similarly, can you bring more money in? Ask for a raise at work, get more clients, develop new products, or find a new side hustle. Of course, money isn’t everything but most of us would just love to be a little more comfortable with our finances.
Have a digital declutter
Find a spare day and go through every device. We’re talking about your phone, your iPad, your laptop, any external hard drives, and your social media accounts. Delete and tidy up your photos, go through any email folders and delete unnecessary emails (unsubscribe too), unfollow accounts you no longer love, and delete your internet history and recycle bin! I’d suggest making a list first of what you want to tackle, prioritise each task, and then set a timer. Many of us could spend hours looking through stuff but if you set yourself a time limit, you can be much more brutal and save lots more space!
Get your diary/calendar organised
Summer brings more plans, and the end of the year does too. Why not get on top of it now and start organising your life? Sit down and think about any events, travel, appointments (book them if you can), etc that you can get penciled in so you never overbook yourself. Don’t forget to leave some free days for just yourself! It’s especially key for content creators so you could even start planning your content for the rest of 2023 now! We’re not saying that plans won’t change but it’s good to have a rough idea of when you’ll be busy and when you have some spare time. Digital planning means you can move tasks and dates around much more easily, which is why I love Google Calendar!
Deep clean and declutter your house
I like to make a list of jobs that don’t get done as often and get them done in one weekend if I can. Such chores could be cleaning the skirting boards, wiping down the tops of cupboards/wardrobes and behind the sofa/beds, and whatever you feel needs doing. One thing on my list is to declutter the spare bedroom, which is also my office. It’s the room that we just dump stuff in when we don’t know where else to put it. I’ll try to grab a notebook but have to move twelve things to get to one. I swear I only tidied it at Easter but alas, it’s a mess again.
Make a snag list
This list is different from a housework list. These are all those tasks that you keep putting off but do eventually want to get done. It could be anything from redecorating a room to visiting a certain cafe in town. You might also have to make certain lists on your general lists: TV shows to watch, books to read, places to visit, and recipes to make. By keeping them all in one place, you can refer to it if you find yourself bored one day/evening/weekend. One thing on mine is to create a list of local coffee shops and cafes that I want to visit, then I can start ticking them off!
A mid-year reset can be whatever you need it to be. From decluttering your beauty stash to revamping your fitness routine, do what feels best for you. I’ve just collated a few ideas on how to have a mid-year reset so feel free to take inspiration but also personalise it!
