You’re probably like me and follow a bunch of wellness influencers online. I don’t know about you but they’re like Beyonce, they must have more than 24 hours in a day. How do they get everything done and stay healthy? That’s why I’ve done the research and found the best tips on how to incorporate wellness into your daily life.
Take your supplements
Of course, it’s best to get your vitamins and minerals naturally through a super healthy diet. However, many of us are lacking in many vitamins so why not supplement that? A daily multi-vitamin is the best starting point as you get a little of everything. Try that for a month or so and see if you feel any different. If not, it’s best to go to your doctor to see if there’s something underlying. Personally, I take a range of vitamins every day (vitamins B, C + D, zinc, iron, magnesium and an anti-histamine) but that’s through years of research plus trial and error.
Stretch daily
If you work from home or have a sedentary job, you need to add stretching into your daily routine. I like to do this as soon as I wake up because I might be 31 but my body feels 91 at times, especially when I first get out of bed. You can find tonnes of videos on YouTube ranging from a 5-minute routine to over half an hour. Trust me, that extra five minutes spent stretching sets you up so well for the rest of the day!
Wear SPF daily
Living in the UK, you might think you don’t need to wear SPF daily because it’s not very sunny. However, the UV rays can still get through the clouds and you also get blue light emissions off your technology. Add SPF on to the end of your skincare routine every morning and increase the strength the closer you get to summertime. I have a SPF15 for cloudy days at home, SPF30 for sunnier days at home and a factor 50 for summertime out of the house.
Make your own step count
If you’re active, you might aim for 12k. If you have a sedentary job, it might be 5k. How about just trying to get an extra 1000 steps onto your daily average from last month/year and gradually increase it from there? 10k steps is the gold star but we’re all about progress. If you work out of the house, try a lunchtime walk or parking a little further away from the office. You could even take more loo or coffee breaks if you really want to get to those extra steps in!
Drink more water
Whilst we should aim for three litres a day, it can be harder for some than others. I’m very lucky that I’ve always been a water girlie so I usually have at least two litres a day anyway. However, an extra glass a day is better than nothing. Aim for small sips throughout the day and keep a water bottle or glass with you at all times. I have a collection so I change mine out every day.
Gratitude journaling every morning
You can make this as complicated or as simple as you’d like. For me, I jot down three things I’m grateful for every morning and that’s it! It literally takes me a minute or two and I made myself a five-year journal so I have another two years left until 2027. I’ll admit I’ve been a little lacklustre over the last two years with it so I hope I can stick to this habit more.
Add a fruit or vegetable to every meal
Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean restriction. In fact, it can mean still enjoying sweet treats but balancing that with home-cooked meals. I’ve been a picky eater since birth so it’s been a very slow process for me personally. For one, I’ve been cooking sweet potato chips or cubes for dinner to have with a flatbread pizza or panini. I also love stir frys to add more veg to my diet, a minimum of two but aiming for four.
Cut down on social media usage
The aim here is to do a little better every day, not do a full 180 overnight. Sure, a phone detox for a day or weekend is the ultimate goal but it’s so hard when you’re chronically online like me. If you know you need more time in the morning but scroll as soon as you wake up, ban yourself until you get ready or limit yourself to 10 minutes. I’ve stopped using my phone after 10.30pm for now but the aim is to be off all technology by 9.30pm so I can read for an hour minimum before bed.
I hate the idea that wellness has become a bit of a competition when it’s meant to improve and enhance your life. That’s why small changes are so important on how to incorporate wellness into your daily life. Sticking to habits for a few weeks will actually change your life massively!
