Now we’re halfway through the year, I need a bit of a reset. I do one every month but midway through 2024 feels different. With that being said, here’s June 2024 in review.
THE JOB SEARCH CONTINUES
I’ve had a bunch of interviews (2 of them in person) in June and yet again, I’ve not heard back from most of them. I’m sorry but if you can’t even acknowledge someone after an interview, especially for an in-person one, you should rethink your hiring strategy. I appreciate companies interview lots of candidates nowadays but if you’ve had an interview, a simple ‘sorry, it’s a no’ email can’t be hard to send out en masse. My job search just feels so frustrating right now because I’m more than qualified for most content writing/SEO roles yet I often get overlooked. Is it because I’m chronically online? Is it because I’m currently self-employed? Or is it because my face just simply doesn’t fit? The fact that you don’t get feedback anymore makes it harder to know!
TWO THEATRE PRESS NIGHTS
In June, I managed to see both Come From Away and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at Hull New Theatre. Both shows are two of my all-time favourites anyway but these new tours are just so exciting. I’ll never understand why people say that tours aren’t on a par with West End productions because everyone involved (cast, musicians, costumes, lighting, set design, hair + make-up etc) is incredible. Theatre should not be so London-centric to ensure it’s accessible to lots of us. I’m not seeing as many shows nowadays because of the cost but I’d rather travel around Yorkshire/Manchester than go all the way to London.
AN ADDICTION TO THE LIBRARY
I’m back in my reading era and although I have tonnes of physical and Kindle books to read, I’ve decided to get books from the library instead. I feel like a little kid again because I would go every two weeks with my dad to pick up a handful of books. Now I either browse the shelves or if I’m short on time, I’ll set up holds online and pick them up. Right now, I’ve got nine books at home and another six on hold.
A BALANCED DIET
It seems strange to include but my diet has been all over the place in June. Growing up, I lived on pizza and chicken nuggets. Nowadays, I’m still a picky eater but do have more variety in my diet. However, this month, I’ve probably eaten worse than ever. Sure, I’ve cooked some healthy-ish meals (mostly stir fries or chicken and sweet potatoes). But then, I’ve snacked a lot and had a lot of junk food. I’ve eaten a lot of pizza, not ideal for someone with issues with lactose! Oh well, sometimes you just need to eat some junk.
That’s my short and sweet June 2024 in review. It’s been a quieter month than anticipated but that’s okay. Sometimes, you just need to slow down! I’m still focused on trying to balance, getting more work/a job, my current clients, my blog and my health. God, how do some people just get everything done?
