PERSONAL | MAKING A CHANGE
As you can see, I’ve taken a mini blogging break. I’ve had some major changes in my life and if you’ve been following me on Twitter, you may well have seen.
In a couple of weeks, I’ll be making the move from Hull to Sheffield to start my Masters degree! I’ll be attending Sheffield Hallam to take an MA in Sports Journalism. It’s something I’ve only been thinking about for a couple of months and I originally didn’t plan to start it this September. The plan was to work full time for a year and then move. However, I’ve had some dreadful luck on the job-front so I’m taking the plunge now!
I only ended up applying on 23rd July and since then have been made an unconditional offer (and accepted it!), viewed about 20 properties and made a deposit on one AND found a job! I wanted to get everything in place before I went so that the transition can be as smooth as possible. I’ve already bought pretty much everything I’ll need for my studio flat and am so incredibly excited!
In terms of blogging, I really want to continue but I know that I will be incredibly busy. The aim is to post one or two times a week but this may vary depending on my schedule. I’ll be a full-time student, working part-time and trying to get as much journalism experience as my timetable allows me to.
With results day being yesterday, I also wanted you all to know that university isn’t everything. For the majority of careers, you don’t need a degree for them. Yes I know there are exceptions but it’s not always a necessity. If you’ve been reading my blog for some time, you’ll know I didn’t have the best university experience ever (see the post here) and if I had done some research beforehand, I wouldn’t have gone at all.
University can be an amazing, life-changing experience for many but don’t feel pressured into picking one you’re not sure about. You can take some time out, like a gap year or work for a year and see how you feel then! Do what’s best for you!
I’m so excited to get my career back on track after spending the last year doing some soul-searching. Moving to a city like Sheffield will open more doors and it’s not too far away from home either! Sheffield bloggers and those in the surrounding area, let me know who you are! I don’t know anyone there so I’ll be all on my own!
