I thought I’d not really done much in March but it turns out there were more highlights and plans than I thought! Here’s my March 2025 in review.
A WORK-HEAVY MONTH
You’ll have noticed that I didn’t post many blog posts in March. That’s because I was so focused on work. Right now, I’m in that space of life where work needs to be a priority. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that because I’m choosing to do so. I would like to find a bit more balance in my life though because I want to spend more time on my hobbies and not just want to sleep whenever I’m not working!
TWO DAY TRIPS TO BRADFORD
In March, I took two day trips to Bradford to see two musicals. The first one was Hamilton mid-month and then last week, I saw & Juliet. They’re two of my all-time favourite stage shows so it’s always exciting to get to see them again. Bradford isn’t my favourite place to visit anymore because a lot of places in the city centre have closed. I tend to park myself in a coffee shop for a couple of hours to work or blog, have some dinner somewhere, wander around the shopping centre and head straight to the theatre.
THE RETURN OF F1
My weekends revolve around sports and with football and rugby league, we’re now adding F1 back into the equation. It’s been a dramatic start to the season already and we’ve only had two races. I’m always Team LH44 and have been since 2007 but I’ve always been a Ferrari hater. It’s definitely taking me some time to come around but anything for Sir Lewis!
SEEING MY FIRST OPERA
Last week, I attended my very first opera and took my dad to the press night. We got to see Opera North’s The Magic Flute and we both enjoyed it so much! It was definitely an odd storyline but also felt familiar, like a pantomime. Both of us said that we’d love to see another opera but maybe one with a more serious plot. We definitely have the opera bug!
FINDING A NEW HOBBY
I’ve found a new hobby and now I just need to carve out some extra time for it. That hobby is journalling/scrapbooking! I’ve been doing my own version of bullet journalling for a couple of years but have decided to make myself an F1 journal to track each race weekend. I’ve only covered Australia so far so I need to spend this week catching up and adding China to it before Japan this weekend. Also, I’ve finally started my theatre scrapbook. I decided to start with this year’s trips but have just bought another book to start 2021-2024. I just wish I’d collected more leaflets to cover each show.
REFRESHING MY SKINCARE ROUTINE
I’ve been following a tonne of doctors and aestheticians on TikTok and gathered a bunch of their recommendations together. That’s meant I’ve done a few skincare hauls in March to introduce some new products to my routine. To be money-savvy, I deposited five products at Boots as part of their recycling scheme and I’ve done this three times now. I’m banning myself from buying any toiletries in April because I’m now fully stocked up!
BOOKING THEATRE FOR THE REST OF 2025
I think other than one or two shows, I’ve booked all of my theatre trips for the year. I was debating on making a trip to London in late summer but I cannot believe just how expensive it is there now. £100+ a night for a hotel and around £100 train return. That’s before any spending money or tickets for shows. Instead, I’m making use of cheaper theatre tickets in Yorkshire and making a couple of trips across to Manchester.
FINALLY ADDING TO MY SINKING FUNDS
After getting my first pay from my new freelance journalism job, I decided to be sensible. Instead of spending lots of money, I put a bunch of money into my savings instead. I deposited money into my Help to Buy ISA, Lifetime ISA and pension as well as added some money to my beauty and travel sinking funds. It’s been a while since I’ve saved more than a few quid so I was excited to be sensible for a change! This is what I’m most proud of in this March 2025 in review.
BOOKING FOR C2C 2026
If this year’s travel wasn’t enough, I’ve already started planning towards 2026. I’m rewarding myself with a trip to London next March and going back to the Country 2 Country music festival. I’ve not been since 2019. I’d planned on going in 2020, travelled down to London and then it got cancelled because of Covid. I ended up seeing five theatre shows, travelling back and then lockdown happened. I’m excited to go again and I’m praying that it’s a good line-up!
HAVING A HIGH-SPENDING MONTH
Despite saving the most money this month than I have in years, it was still a very high-spend month. If I take out the above three categories of C2C, savings and theatre tickets, that would be around £1400 less! In fact, I was under budget on my day trips to Bradford but I did overspend in just about every category of my budget. My friend Nicola also launched her new spring collection for her clothing line, Kelham Print, so I made a massive haul and bought seven items.
STARTING 75 SOFT (AGAIN)
I’m a week into starting 75 Soft again. It’s not been a perfect week but it’s all progress. I managed to go for three walks and have one workout, which compared to recent months is a miracle. I’m doing much better with my water intake and my other daily healthy habits. Now it’s about balancing my diet a little better and moving my body more.
As you can see, March 2025 in review was a mixed month. I mostly focused on work but did have some fun scattered throughout the month too. April is all about continuing 75 Soft, balancing my client work and trying to find pockets of time to enjoy my hobbies.
