May was a super busy month for me but I also tried to take the time to relax as much as I could. I don’t think I’ve had any proper time off work since Christmas so it’s also been nice to decompress and hit the reset button again. Here’s my May 2025 in review.
FOUR THEATRE DAY TRIPS OUT OF TOWN
I started the month by travelling to Sheffield to see Bat Out of Hell. However, I only made it through the first act because it was possibly the worst musical I’ve ever seen. I’m sorry if you’re a fan but it really wasn’t for me. A week later, I travelled to Bradford to see Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake before going to Sheffield to see it the week after. I’d forgotten that I’d booked the show in back-to-back tour stops but the show is exceptional so I didn’t mind! I finished off the month by seeing Kinky Boots in Leeds last week. Whilst it wasn’t as good as the previous tour a few years ago, I thoroughly enjoyed the cast’s performances!
SORTING THROUGH MY GRANDPARENTS’ HOUSE
Long story short, my grandad passed away back in September and we moved my grandma into a care home shortly after as she couldn’t cope at home on her own. Since then, we’ve spent all this time sorting out their bills and trying to declutter their house ready to sell. We’ve still got so much stuff to get through but it does feel like we’ve made some real progress in May. Initially, we thought they didn’t have much stuff as there’s always been very little on display. However, every time you open a cupboard or wardrobe, I swear the stuff inside triples every time. I didn’t realise they were such hoarders because I thought I’d be able to donate loads to charity. Unfortunately, most of their clothing is in such a state that I’m unable to donate or resell it. We’ve been going down most weekends to declutter but still have tonnes of work to do!
CRUEL INTENTIONS PRESS NIGHT
We had another press night to attend in Hull for Cruel Intentions. I wouldn’t say it was the best show I’ve ever seen but again, I thought the cast did a great job with what they were given. The main issue for me was the entire plot. I remember seeing the film years ago and finding it icky but it somehow came across worse on stage. The songs felt shoehorned into the show, rather than naturally. I’m not the biggest fan of jukebox musicals and usually prefer them when they have a storyline. Cruel Intentions missed the mark for me a little.
TAKING A FORTNIGHT OFF
As I said in the introduction, it’s been months since I took a break from work and blogging. That’s why I blocked off nearly two weeks to just chill and do nothing. I did this for the first week, sitting on the sofa and watching tonnes of TV to catch up on. Last week, I decided to use my three days at home to catch up on blogging instead. I spent a full day planning my content for the rest of 2025 and then two days drafting posts. Again, I put too much pressure on myself and expected myself to write 1000 posts in two days but I’ve got enough done to keep me going for a couple of weeks.
ARSENAL WOMEN PICKING UP A TROPHY
We only went and won the Champions League, didn’t we?! I won’t lie, I wasn’t massively optimistic about our chances. However, if we’d have played well and lost to the better team, I’d have been happy. Instead, every single player had the game of their lives, and we lifted that trophy! Honestly, it happened nearly a week ago, and I’m still on a high from it!
As you can see, my May 2025 in review was a bit chaotic, but it was also nice to finally have a few days to rest at home. June is looking pretty similar, except that I won’t have any holidays and am getting back into the swing of things with work.
