Weekends are the perfect time to relax and rejuvenate. Every Sunday, I have a little me time. My routine isn’t as luxurious as some. Eczema means that I can’t use most products. They have to be fragrance-free and cruelty-free plus I’m not that big on pampering anyway. Creating my perfect weekend pamper routine is all about what works for you, not someone else. You’ll find mine is quite basic compared to some!
I try to do a version of this routine every Sunday. It sets me up for the week ahead and helps me to relax. I don’t do it every week but I try to get some form of self-care in daily anyway. It’s important to take care of yourself every single day! It’s nice to take an hour or two away from everything and just relax. I’m always on the go, even when working from home, so it’s nice to do something without any distractions! My perfect weekend pamper routine is as follows.
A long, hot shower
Sorry everyone, I’m just not a bath kind of gal. The idea of sitting in my own dirt makes me want to puke. Showers are thinking time for me. I’m either performing my one-woman Six show as all six queens or plotting word domination. I often have bursts of inspiration in there so make sure I jot down ideas as soon as I’m dry! When in the shower, this below is my extended routine. I’ve linked the products I’m using right now too!
- Clarifying shampoo
- Shave legs and wash body
- Exfoliate face
- Leave-in conditioner – leave this on to soak in, don’t rinse out, let my hair air dry as much as possible before using the hairdryer
- Dipbrobase entire body
Isn’t there something just so cosy about getting out of a long, hot shower or bath and into fresh clothes and bedding? Definitely in winter, I amp up the cosiness levels as I’m a total cold arse in general. I always grab some fresh PJs and fluffy socks because what’s better than fluffy socks?
I try to strip my bed every Sunday morning when I wake up and put new sheets on later in the afternoon. You’re meant to let your bed air as often as you can! Fresh bedding just makes my sleep that much better.
Full skincare routine
I have to be so incredibly careful with the skincare I use because I have incredibly sensitive skin and eczema. Cruelty-free skincare can be expensive so I tend to use own-brand skincare. I have to admit that I’ve been pretty rubbish with my routine lately and just used micellar water and moisturiser daily. My skin hasn’t been great lately so maybe I need to start doing my routine more! When I can be bothered, I like to go all in with these steps. I’ve linked the product I use where I can.
- Micellar water
- Hyaluronic serum
- Night cream
- Eye cream
- Spot treatment
- Leave-on face mask before bed
I have a confession to make: I bite my nails. I do try reallllly hard not to but sometimes I just can’t help it. To stop this, I try to paint my nails weekly so I can grow them a bit. Since going cruelty-free, it can be pretty hard to find decent nail polish. My go-to brands are Autograph @ M&S, Kiko Milano, Essence Cosmetics and Barry M. Luckily they’re all affordable!
I always use a top and bottom coat, no matter what colour I’m using. At this time of year, I love going for darker colours so a bottom coat is a necessity. A bit of glitter is also important; I just hate how long it takes to take off!
When it comes to a pedicure, I’m thankful I don’t have to do this as often. A home pedicure usually lasts about a month although I might add another top coat after a fortnight to freshen it up.
After this routine, I settle down for the night, watch the Strictly results show, check my plans for the week in my journals and watch a box set (currently Chicago PD). Then I read, fill in my gratitude journal and have an early night!
