Summer is here, which means it’s time to make my seasonal to-do list. I won’t call it a summer bucket list, because they’re meant to be a little more fun. However, this list is filled with tasks that I want to get done over the next couple of months to make my life easier. Here’s a look at my summer 2025 to-do list.
TAKE A LOOK AT MY ANNUAL GOALS + EDIT THEM
One of the first things I want to do before summer really hits is do a mid-year review. Most of us set a bunch of goals in January and never look at them again. I try to look at them at least once a week, if not monthly, but I’ve definitely decided that some really aren’t important to me anymore. It’s okay to reflect and edit them to what you now value. Six months is still a long time to get your goals accomplished! I try to do a mixture of habit goals (stuff I want to do regularly) and one-time achievements if that makes sense.
PLAN OUT THE NEXT THREE MONTHS
If you can, try to roughly plan out the quarter. Make sure you know any major plans and stick them on a calendar or in your diary. Then you’ll have an idea of what free time you have. I’m lucky that, because I’m self-employed, I have more flexibility than most. I work three days with one client and have already given them my July and August availability. Also, it’s a big summer of sport (women’s Euros, women’s rugby union World Cup, and the usual rugby league and F1 calendars, before the football season starts again), so they’re all high priority for me. Other than that, my main area to plan is my blog. Once you have your big time blocks in, you can fit other stuff around them. I’ve now booked in my beauty appointments for the summer, and want to plan some self-care time too!
DECLUTTER MY WARDROBE
This is probably my favourite activity to do every season, but especially in the summer. Because I don’t have tonnes of summer clothing, it’s more so to declutter my autumn/winter stuff before the second half of the year. I do try to shop out of season, too, but I try to find a cooler day to try lots of items on! I know for a fact that I need to go through my long-sleeved T-shirts and sweatshirts ahead of autumn. I’ve had many of them for years, and it’s time for a change. Maybe I’ll try to sell stuff on Vinted again, or maybe I’ll just donate stuff. Vinted is so time-consuming when you barely make any money from it.
DECLUTTER MY HOME OFFICE
This has been on my list nearly every month this year, but I’m finally going to get it done on my summer 2025 to-do list! However, I cannot stand to look at it any longer. I’m hoping to find two spare days to sort it out, whether that’s two weekdays or a full weekend. I definitely need to donate some books and do a major decluttering of my stationery. I’ve also got a bunch of notebooks filled with content ideas, so I also need to sit down and transfer them into one book, rather than ten.
CREATE MY SUMMER TBR
Summer = extra reading time for me! Whilst I tend to work more, I also want to find more time to read. However, this year, I want to go in with a plan for what I want to read. Of course, it’s not restrictive if I fancy reading something not on the list. However, I have a bunch of series that I want to finish and start to make a dent on my Kindle TBR. Apparently, I own around 1000 Kindle books, and I’ve no idea how many I’ve read!
TIDY UP MY DIGITAL DEVICES + SPACES
Again, this is a task that I always start but never finish. My external hard drive is an absolute mess, because I just transfer everything from my computer and phone, but rarely organise it properly. I’d also love to finally empty my email newsletter folder because once again, I hoard thousands in there. It’ll also be a good time to unsubscribe from some mailing lists too.
PRIORITISE MY HOBBIES + REDUCE SCREEN TIME
This ties in with me wanting to read more (my Kindle doesn’t count as screen time IMO). Summer is the perfect time to reduce screen time, even though I tend to work more! However, if I can time-block my life and be more productive, I can have most nights to chill out with a hobby. I’ve been scrapbooking, bullet journaling, and colouring this year. I’d also love to start making bracelets again because I’ve still got so many beads left from the Eras Tour and would love the space back!
STAY ON TRACK WITH DAILY HEALTHY HABITS
Habit tracking is one of the most motivating ways that I try to get my life on track. In the summer, I want to try to focus on a new habit every month. For July, it’s not using my phone before completing my morning routine. That’s giving myself half an hour to an hour of solo time, getting ready for the day, before using my phone. I’ve no real need to be on social media first thing, so I’m hoping it helps me out mentally.
Summer for me will be all about more self-care + stress management, updating morning + evening routines, sticking to a workout routine, keeping on top of my water intake, reading every day, and doing my skincare twice a day. These sound like such small habits, but sometimes, I fall off track when I’m in a funk.
HAVE A COUPLE OF LOW-BUY MONTHS
Because I have zero plans during the summer, I want to use this time to really keep my spending to a minimum. If I’m working more, I should be able to make more money, and in turn, save more money. By spending less, I’ll be able to save up to move, which is my biggest goal in 2025. That means restricting a few categories to minimal spending: clothing, toiletries/beauty products, books, and stationery. Right now, I have what I need, and will only buy it if it’s a proper necessity! I also want to pay off my eye care plan at some point, which I used for new glasses last year.
TRY A BUNCH OF NEW LOCAL EATERIES + COFFEE SHOPS
With that being said, I have increased my eating out/coffee shop funds, because I want to try a handful of local spots in Hull. Again, I’ll probably make a little bucket list, but there are so many independents in the city centre. I’ll probably end up trying a couple per visit because I try not to go into town too much (it’s a bit naff). However, Hull’s eatery scene is definitely thriving right now!
And that’s everything for my summer 2025 to-do list. It’s less of a bucket list because it’s full of less ‘fun’ things, but getting these ten items done will be a mixture of fun and effort. In fairness, though, I find planning and decluttering, and consider them hobbies!
