And with that, the year is practically done. It’s not been my favourite year but there’s still been some highlights, especially recently. Here’s my Q4 2024 in review.
CARE HOME SHENANIGANS
After just a couple of weeks in one care home, we moved my grandma into another home. It’s very expensive but my god, the facilities are night and day. If it wasn’t a care home, I’d want to move in myself! The food is amazing, the staff are so attentive and lovely, and most importantly, my grandma is happy. Sure, her memory is getting worse and she’s not in the best health. However, she’s in the best place for her and we get to see her regularly.
ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES BRADFORD TRIP
Well, this is one musical I don’t think I ever want to see again. I’m a 90s baby, I grew up watching the show with my parents. However, it didn’t translate into a musical well. I thought the cast did an exceptional job with the material they had and the script was pretty funny, featuring lots of references to the TV show. On the other hand, the songs were a bit meh and the production was a bit sloppy in places.
DEAR EVAN HANSEN LEEDS TRIP
Another disappointing theatre trip to round off 2024. Dear Evan Hansen has to be one of the most disappointing shows I’ve ever seen. The soundtrack is one of my all-time favourites but it doesn’t translate to the stage show. Lots of musicals have a pretty sucky script and unfortunately, DEH is one of them. Once again, the cast’s performances were superb but the show as a whole was just okay.
TWO HULL NEW THEATRE PRESS NIGHTS
Whilst I haven’t attended as much theatre as I’d have liked in 2024, I managed to get to two local press nights in Q4: Northern Ballet’s A Christmas Carol and Hairspray. Neither were five stars but still good in very different ways. A Christmas Carol was definitely not a traditional ballet and the lack of orchestra was a sticking point for me. Hairspray was as amazing as it usually is but something about it stopped me from giving it five stars!
& JULIET LEEDS TRIP
This is a show that’s a favourite of mine, both the music as well as the stage show. We had a show stop as Lara Denning perofmed one song with a croaky throat and was unable to sing anymore. That lead to Harriet Caplan-Dean taking over in the role of Anne Hathaway. Her microphone was very quiet throughout the show though! Gerardine Sacdalan as Juliet was an inspired casting and I hope to see her in tonnes of stuff in the future!
HEALTH + BEAUTY APPOINTMENTS
During the past few weeks, I’ve had a lymphatic facial, dermaplaning + hydradermabrasion, a haircut, and my regular nail appointment every three weeks. It’s something that I want to prioritise in 2025 because I’ll be 32. I definitely need to look after myself better and that starts on the outside as well as the inside!
F1 SEASON FINISHING
And another season finishes with another Verstappen world championship. I was pleased for McLaren getting the constructors as they’ve had the most consistent pairing across the season. There’s a fair bit of movement for 2025 so it’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out. Of course, I’m a Hamilton fan above everything else so now I’m a Ferrari girlie. I like Leclerc so it works out but I’ve always hated Ferrari since I started watching F1 in the early 00s! Also, revenge tour season for Tsunoda as he deserved the Red Bull seat over Lawson.
THE ROLLERCOASTER THAT IS SUPPORTING ARSENAL
Ah, my beloved Gunners. The men have been pretty inconsistent this season but have managed to stay in the top 4. They’re not capitalising on Man City’s blip though! Now we cross everything that Saka’s hamstring injury means he’s out for weeks, rather than months. The women are going a bit better, having not lost since October and Jonas Eideval getting the boot. I say give Slegers the job until the end of the season! I have my fingers crossed that there isn’t a huge squad turnover in January but there are lots of rumours floating around of player outgoings.
BOX SET SEASON
If there’s anything I love more than basically anything, it’s watching TV. I wish I could get paid for it! If you read my post on what I’ve watched in Q4, you’ll see I was big on Law & Order (the OG series) and I’ve whizzed through Gilmore Girls. I need to get up-to-date with Drive to Survive and Grey’s Anatomy but 2025 is the year I go back through some old favourites. I’m thinking Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and Revenge deserve rewatches.
And that’s a wrap on my Q4 2024 in review and nearly on 2024 as a whole! It’s been a pretty stressful quarter but we made it through in one piece!
