Yes, I’m going to be another person who says that 2023 is zooming by! With only three months left, you’ll have seen last week that I’m trying to make the most of them. However, September wasn’t necessarily a bad month so let’s take a closer look at my September 2023 in review.
HOLIDAYING IN THE LAKE DISTRICT
It’s been a good few years since I last visited the Lake District. Every time, I think about my next visit because it’s so peaceful. I just wish I was more outdoorsy because towards the end of the trip, my knee popped and I’ve been in pain ever since. The apartment we stayed in was in Kendal as it’s a great base for travelling to various surrounding towns and villages. We ate a lot of good food, spent a lot of time outside, and had numerous hot chocolates. The only downside is that you really need a car to visit the area, meaning I can’t really go for a solo holiday!
CATCHING UP WITH BEAUTY APPOINTMENTS
One thing that is self-care to me is keeping up with my beauty appointments. In September, I had dermaplaning before our holiday and a haircut last week, alongside my fortnightly nail appointments. There’s something so therapeutic about putting your phone on silent for an hour or so and just chatting to someone. As a freelancer, I don’t get much human interaction so I do crave it when I leave the house! My nails and hair look much fresher and hopefully, my skin will improve once I’ve got rid of this autumnal cold!
SEEING BUSTED LIVE AGAIN + AN OVERNIGHT STAY IN LEEDS
Seriously, one of the best concerts I’ve been to, firmly now in my top 10. Even in the seated sections, most people were stood up the entire time because the energy was just electric. I love greatest hits tours because the crowd always responds well to every song. The only negative was the sound during Hanson’s support set. In fairness, I don’t know many of their songs but the microphones weren’t very clear! My friend Rachel and I stayed overnight in the Premier Inn opposite First Direct Arena, which I’d do again for a show there!
FOUR JOB INTERVIEWS/CHATS
As you all know, I’ve been looking for both full-time roles as well as freelance clients. In September, I’ve had four job interviews/chats. One of them was in person in Hull and within hours, I’d been offered the role. However, I declined it because I wasn’t 100% into the role or company. I might regret it but I couldn’t see myself there long-term. I’m still waiting to hear back from two roles and I got declined for the other. With my schedule back to normal, I can do some work on my freelance business, getting back on socials and my blog.
WATCHING A TONNE OF SPORT (AS ALWAYS)
My weekends are getting so busy with multiple sports on! We’ve got the F1, football, rugby league, rugby union, and golf all on throughout September. The WSL (football) also returns on Sunday so that will take up even more of my spare time! However, I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s my main passion in life so why wouldn’t it be considered a hobby for me?
STRICTLY RETURNS
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I’m a proper Strictly super fan. I’ve been watching since series one and would probably use it as my Mastermind subject (seriously, test me). However, I cannot get into this season. The main reason is the inclusion of a transphobe on the show when its whole premise for years has been diversity and inclusion. I’ll still watch the show but probably not live nor will I be tweeting along with it. Maybe I will after she’s left the show but I’m not committing to it. I’m team Layton, of course, though!
BACK TO THE THEATRE
I thought I’d sneak in more visits but sometimes, you just need some rest! I’ve managed to fit in a press night to see Heathers this week though. Whilst it’s not my favourite musical in the world, the songs are super catchy and the cast does an amazing job every time. I love writing theatre reviews but I don’t see myself travelling to see many shows outside of Hull in the next few months.
That’s a wrap on my September 2023 in review. As you can see, it was pretty jam-packed for a change so I’m excited for October to be a little less chaotic so I can focus on work and blogging.
