SIX THE MUSICAL UK TOUR 2025 REVIEW
SATURDAY 7TH JUNE 2025 @ 4PM
HULL NEW THEATRE
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ?/5
If you’ve been following me for some time now, you’ll know that Six is in my top three stage musicals of all time. I say it’s a musical for people who don’t like musicals but love pop music. Here’s my Six the Musical UK tour 2025 review.
PRE-SHOW THOUGHTS
Because I love this show so much, I’m always excited to see a new tour cast and their interpretations of the iconic Six queens. The majority of the cast are making their professional debuts, which is always a great opportunity, but it’s a very high-octane, demanding show. It’s basically non-stop for 80 minutes, so it’s a bit like diving in at the deep end! I last saw it on tour in 2022, but first saw it back in 2019 at The Arts Theatre in London.
THE CAST
The most exciting part of Six is getting to see a new cast take on these iconic queens. LaSasha Alredge played Catherine of Aragon, and it was different to hear an American accent in the role over here. I really enjoyed her portrayal of Aragon, and No Way is a song that actually sounds better with an American accent!
Yna Montarde as Anne Boleyn might be up there with the all-time faves in this role. Finally, I got to hear a northern Queen. I’ve been saying for years that Boleyn with a northern accent would be epic, and Montarde was incredible. The humour didn’t feel forced either, which it sometimes can when it’s scripted in the show.
Emily Dawson’s version of Heart of Stone was outstanding, it was hauntingly beautiful. Whilst she has the biggest ballad in the show, Seymour has plenty of funny moments, which Dawson delivered exceptionally.
Anna of Cleves is another of the ‘fun’ queens, and Jodie Knight’s Get Down was a real crowd-pleaser. I’m actually glad that the costume reveal wasn’t in the show, I’ve never really thought it added to it.
According to TikTok, I saw Abi Atchison’s Katherine Howard debut, which I didn’t realise at the time. All You Wanna Do is a very hard song to lead in, and I thought she did a great job. I’d love to see her in her other alt role as Boleyn too.
Finishing up was Layla Chivandire as Catherine Parr. I think she had my favourite vocals of the cast, and she had such rich, mature vocals to say it’s her professional debut! She did fluff a couple of lines in the dialogue, but I’m not sure many noticed.
THE PRODUCTION
I know every song on the Six soundtrack off by heart, and it’s always exciting to hear the songs come to life with the ladies-in-waiting band and live singers. The harmonies were super tight, and it’s only their third week as a cast too.
Every part of the tour is as special as the West End cast: choreography, set design, costumes, lighting, and sound. Finally, the sound quality at Hull New Theatre was excellent, and I think it might be because they use handheld mics, rather than taped into their wigs.
I’m not sure I’ll ever fall out of love with this production. Everything about it is always top-notch, and they never scrimp on cost. Sometimes, tours feel a little on a budget, but Six always feels high quality in every department.
FINAL THOUGHTS
It’s a musical I recommend to everyone, whether they say they like musicals or not. I’d say if you enjoy pop music, it’s up your street. If you’re a history buff, maybe it’s not 100% accurate, but it’s accurate enough for me. However, I still find it educational enough, but not if you have a degree in history. I first saw it in 2019, and still, six years later, it feels fresh. It’s truly one of the greatest modern musicals.
If you fancy seeing the show after reading my Six the Musical UK Tour 2025 review, it’s on tour for the rest of the year, and some dates into 2026 too. You can find my other theatre reviews here too. Don’t forget to give me a follow on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok too. I’ve been posting every day in June so far!
