If there’s one thing I’m an expert in, it’s TV box sets. I always have a show on in the background when working and in the evening so I get through quite a lot every year. With that being said, here are the 5 TV shows I watch on repeat.
Law and Order: SVU
If there’s anyone I’m loyal to, it’s Captain Benson and her squad. I know I need to watch the last season and a bit but I’ve just started another rewatch. It’s so hard to find the show online but luckily, I’ve found a website with every season on (although I could just pay per season on Prime). I’d say I prefer the later series because Barba and Carisi are my two favourite male characters and I enjoyed Rollins’ stint on the show too. However, the earlier seasons with Munch, Finn and Cragen have some great storylines. I also like that whilst the subject matter is so serious, there are some funny lines throughout, usually from Munch.
Gilmore Girls
I know, I’m just a typical millennial girlie but I simply have to watch Gilmore Girls every autumn. I do prefer the seasons pre-Yale as Rory does become unbearable at times as an adult, especially when she quits Yale. However, I’m also in the minority of being a Logan girl. Dean is a great first boyfriend initially but then he’s too clingy. Jess is a dick to begin with but in the end, he’s too good for Rory. Logan is also a dick but I do think he improves, especially when he’s graduated from Yale. He pushes Rory to be better and admits his privilege. I love when he calls her out on her crap too.
Chicago Fire/Med/PD
The One Chicago franchise is probably my all-time favourite. I especially love the earlier seasons when there were quite a few crossovers. I’m excited that the current seasons will feature a crossover episode too! I’d say Fire is my favourite because it’s that perfect blend of drama, romance and comedy (Hermann, Mouch, Cruz and Otis make it hilarious). However, my favourite characters always leave or get killed off (Mills/Otis on Fire, Halstead/Lindsay on PD and Halstead/Rhodes/Reese on Med) and Med certainly has quite a high staff turnover! It’s been a while since I rewatched them all so maybe I’ll do that next.
Grey’s Anatomy
I think I first watched Grey’s years ago but couldn’t get into it. However, lockdown happened so I gave it another go. This time, I gave it more than one season and loved it. Sure, lots of the characters are flawed but I love them all the same. I’m a Cristina girl through and through (she can do no wrong in my eyes) so I was glad that she got her true ending. I’d love her to make a cameo as I can see the show ending soon. Again, I need to catch up on the last two seasons. I like the new interns but I don’t love them like the originals yet. Also, Meredith is a much better character after Derek’s death, sorry. She truly shines in the later seasons and I do love the strong female characters in the show.
Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team
If there’s one reality TV show that I can watch on a loop, it’s the original Making the Team. You probably know that I grew up as a dancer so this is the main reason that I watch the show. These young women put their heart and soul into making it as a DCC and I love to see their journeys. Personally, I wish they’d have focused more on the dancing because I enjoy learning them myself! I wish I’d seen the show when I was younger because I 100% would’ve focused on getting fit and practising with a view to trying out. Yes, I’d have loved to have made it! I’m so obsessed with the show that I’m even in a forum to talk about it because I don’t know anyone IRL who watches it. I’ve enjoyed the Netflix documentary too but I do miss the older format.
You might think I’m an addict but I like watching TV and I also am a creature of habits. That’s why the 5 TV shows I watch on repeat are all different but some of them are similar!
