It’s time to get back on schedule with my monthly watchlist. I always enjoy doing these posts because I try to watch a range of stuff but I always go back to my favourite shows! Here’s what I watched in January 2025.
World’s Strongest Man 2024
I hate that we don’t get to see the year’s Strongman competition until Christmas when the event happens in early May. In fairness, I can usually remember who won it but not the places of everyone else or who even made the final. Of course, it’s always great to see a Brit winning and I don’t think Tom Stoltman gets enough recognition in this country!
Law and Order seasons 12, 13, 15 + 17
I’m slowly getting through Law and Order and am nearing the finish line of the original seasons. For some reason, 5USA didn’t show seasons 14 or 16 so I’ll have to find them online somewhere. It’s not as good as SVU is in my opinion but some of the storylines have been so relevant. We’re at that point where cast members leave nearly every other season so it feels like you don’t get to know them well enough before they leave.
Vera series 14
It’s probably my favourite UK crime drama, other than maybe Broadchurch and Line of Duty. Brenda Blethyn has played this character perfectly since 2011 and I also love the rest of the cast, especially Kenny. He’s the only one who’s been in it from the very beginning with Vera! It’s going on my watchlist as my work TV show once I’ve got through the earlier SVU seasons.
Gossip Girl seasons 1-3
This has been my night-time show since the new year. I’d forgotten just how good the earlier seasons were. I’d say this is the show (especially seasons 1-2) where I can tell the episode by the outfit. I had folders on my laptop years ago of every outfit the women ever wore on the show so I could try to replicate them on a budget. I’ve always said Jenny has the style more for me but without the heavy eye make-up! Upon watching as a proper adult, every character is so unlikeable and unbearable. Serena is the worst but Blair isn’t exactly the best bestie either.
Drive to Survive seasons 3+4
I’m slowly rewatching as I hate the ending of season 4/2021 so much that I struggle to watch past that. I’ve said since then if Max had won fair and square, I’d have been fine with it as either him or Lewis deserved the title. What I didn’t like was the way it was handled. Yes, I’m still sour about it but then again, I hate the direction F1 is going in. I stay for Sir Lewis and that is all.
SVU seasons 1+25
It seems strange to watch the first and most current seasons at the same time but why not? There are so many episodes to get through that I just wanted to get season 25 off the Sky+ planner. Then I discovered a website with all 26 seasons on so decided to watch it from the very beginning. The only problem is that they’re long seasons so it takes me ages to get through 24 episodes! I want to get up to date by the end of the year so I’ll be powering through them when I can.
Becoming Madonna
I saw this documentary on the Sky planner and had to record it. I’ve been a fan of Madonna’s music for years but never really known much about her as a person. This documentary made me think of her in such a positive light, especially all of the work she did for those with HIV/AIDS. She’s a music icon but also a great human being.
The Last Five Years
It’s one of my favourite movie musicals so it had to be the first one I watched in 2025. Jeremy Jordan and Anna Kendrick are perfection and the main highlight of the movie is the score. I love the telling of the story both being chronological and backwards. It’s also great on stage but I think it’s easier to understand on screen.
Titanic the Musical
This is genuinely one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in the theatre and I was so excited to see the filmed broadcast. It’s taken me a few months to watch it since it was first televised on Sky Arts. It’s proof that musicals aren’t all fluffy because it’s such a serious subject matter and even as someone who’s pretty educated, I learn something new about the incident every time.
And that’s what I watched in January 2025. You might think it’s a lot but I love to have a show on in the background when I’m working and I watch a TV show basically every night too.
