Once again, I’ve watched a lot of TV in the last three months of 2024. I’ve spent a lot of time watching two TV shows in particular as you’ll soon see. Here’s what I watched in Q4 2024.
GBBO series 15
I enjoyed this season but it wasn’t a classic for me. You can tell when I’m really into a series because I’ll watch it live each week. This year, I’d record it to watch later in the week. However, Nelly is going on my list of all-time favourite contestants.
Strictly Come Dancing series 22
Again, I feel like Strictly might have had its day now. It used to be my favourite show but I wasn’t as fussed this year. I still watched it every week but would skip past the VTs and just watch the dancing. However, the final was a great show and I would’ve been happy with any winner. Tasha was my favourite though! And yes, I watch for the best dancing, not their personality.
Game of Throws: Inside Darts
A new docuseries about darts and it was a fun, quick watch. I always follow darts throughout the year but get excited for the Worlds at Christmas every year. I’m a big Luke Humphries fan so I’m excited to see how he goes this year.
Law and Order: UK seasons 1-8
Yes, I’ve been on a L&O Universe kick in 2024 and I’m okay with that. I managed to find the UK version on ITV3 every night so I recorded the lot. Sure, it’s not as good as the US version but Bradley Walsh does a good job as the lead detective and there’s some great British actors on throughout the series.
Boybands Forever
I’m a sucker for a boyband and have been since about 1997. This was an eye-opening account of the industry and how shit it is, especially for young people basically going from kids to adults in the blink of an eye. There was so much pressure on them back then and that was before social media existed!
Drive to Survive seasons 1-2
As the F1 season is over, I’ve gone back to Netflix to Drive to Survive. Sure, it’s a bit dramatic but I like getting to know the drivers a little better. I’ve now got to turn from a Mercedes to a Ferrari fan for 2025 because I will follow Hamilton wherever he goes! I also have a soft spot for Leclerc so that helps. I’m sad for Sainz as he’s done nothing to lose his Ferrari seat!
Law and Order SVU seasons 4-5
Once again, 5USA helps to feed my SVU addiction. However, it often just shows seasons at random, rather than in order. The next few seasons are on Netflix but then I have to jump to season 19! In fairness, it’s not like I’ve never seen half of the episodes before!
Law and Order seasons 4-12
I’m slowly getting through the seasons and am about halfway through now. It’s been my background show when I’m working from the sofa so I’ll admit it doesn’t get my fullest attention. However, you can usually get the gist of a storyline by looking up every minute or so!
Grey’s Anatomy season 18
I’m slowly trying to catch up on Disney+ but I end up watching a couple of episodes one day and don’t return for another week. Lots of you will stream everything but I like to watch DVDs still! It also doesn’t help that the Wifi connection in my home office is pretty weak.
Gilmore Girls season 2-7
Autumn time screams Gilmore Girls as my comfort show. I mean what else do you expect in a post about what I watched in Q4 2024? Rory does get more unbearable as the show goes on but she does have some good moments. It might surprise you to know that I’m actually team Logan. I loved adult Jess but he’s too good for adult Rory. Logan is a much better match because although they’re both flawed, they work well together IMO.
The Search for Nicola Bulley
I don’t know why I watch true crime documentaries because the more you learn, the less you want to ever leave the house. This documentary featured her family and friends, making it even more poignant. We’re never fully safe whenever we leave the house, especially women, and I hate that we have to go through a set of steps before we do anything.
World’s Strongest Man
It wouldn’t be Christmas without watching World’s Strongest Man! Sure, it’s annoying that even though it happened in May, it’s only just on UK telly. The best thing about it is just how the participants are like one big family. They’re all crazy strong blokes and are constantly cheering each other on in every event. It gives me such girls’ girl vibes.
Wicked
You all know I’m a musicals girlie but I actually didn’t love Wicked as much as most people seem to have. I gave it a 3/5 as it was good but not great for me. I loved Cynthia and Jonathan but wasn’t a huge fan of Michelle Yeoh or Jeff Goldblum. Ariana Grande felt like she was Ariana Grande playing Glinda rather than being fully the character. I loved the cameos from West End and Broadway performers though!
McFly: the 21st Birthday Party
I’ve been a McFly fan since the very beginning and was gutted that I wasn’t able to make it to London for their birthday shows. I have seen them a couple of times before so it’s not like I’ve completely missed out. I’m also going to see McFly vs Busted twice next year so as much as I like Busted, I love McFly more!
Harry Potter films 1-6
We all hate the author but I do still enjoy the films/books. I own the films on DVD and have the physical books so she gets zero money from me now. I like to watch the films in the lead up to Christmas and haven’t done so for a couple of years. I’m not as crazy about the franchise as I once was but they’re still nostalgic for me.
Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story
This is one of only two Christmas movies I’ve watched this year as frankly, I’ve struggled to get in the mood. This one was highly anticipated but I thought it was just okay. It felt like one big advertisement for the Chiefs and all the yellow and red was giving me a headache. I also had a big problem with the lead couple. The woman looked mid-20s, the guy looked 40-50. It turns out there’s only a 7 year age difference between the actors in real life. He’s a very old-looking 38.
A Carol for Two
I love Christmas movies that use musical theatre actors. The chemistry tends to be better and I like them adding in them singing into the movie. The two leads had both previously been in productions of Wicked, playing Glinda and Fiyero, and the story was about finding your way on Broadway. I only gave it 4/5 because the leading man’s best friend was the most irritating character I think I’ve ever seen in a Christmas movie.
Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
If there’s one thing that I’ve loved longer than just about anything, it’s Wallace and Gromit. It’s been a staple in our house since my childhood and we rewatch every episode/movie frequently. Shaun the Sheep is one of my favourite TV characters and I frequently refer to Feathers McGraw as TV’s most scariest villain. The new installment was full of references to previous ones and Norbot was a lovely addition to the Aardman universe. I really hope it’s not the very last one though!
An American in Paris
This was on for Boxing Day when we had my grandma visiting for the day. Now I’ve always been a Gene Kelly girlie and this is one of his best. I’m sorry but nobody does it like him anymore. He’s a triple threat and incredibly handsome. The iconic end ballet sequence is epic and probably my favourite scene in any film ever. I guess the only thing nowadays that is weird is the age gap between Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron. Then again, watch any old musical and the lead (either Gene or Fred Astaire) is creepily older than their leading lady.
You might think I watch too much TV but I don’t have a social life and it’s background noise most of the time! By everything on my ‘what I watched in Q4 2024’ list, it does look a lot when written down!
