If there’s one thing that I’m good at, it’s watching TV. I’d even say it’s a real skill of mine! However, I’m also a creature of habit. I watch the same shows and movies and struggle to watch new stuff! I’m also old-fashioned and watch most stuff either on DVD or that I’ve recorded on Sky+. With that being said, here’s what I watched in Jan & Feb 2023.
TV
The more I write these, you’ll notice I watch a lot more TV than films. That’s because I spend most nights watching a series! With what I watched in Jan & Feb 2023, here’s the TV I watched.
CHICAGO FIRE s1-4 (DVD)
One of my favourite TV dramas of all time. It’s my favourite of all the One Chicago shows too, although the earlier seasons are best (before they start killing off the best characters). It’s been a while since I rewatched (it was only last year) so I wanted to make my way through the franchise again.
FBI s4 (SKY WITNESS)
I watched seasons 1-3 at the end of 2022 so wanted to finish it off. Until I’ve watched the other series in the franchise, I don’t want to start the latest seasons. The season started with a crossover too (Dick Wolf shows and crossovers go hand-in-hand), which was a great trio of episodes. It felt like we got to know the back stories of the lead characters more too finally!
FBI MOST WANTED s1 (DVD)
When I watched previous crossover episodes, I wasn’t sure about Most Wanted, Now I’ve watched an entire series, I realise I was an idiot! I really like the team dynamics in this show but I know that they switch up the team as the seasons go on. I’ll be sad to see what happens to them because I really like them as a group!
FBI INTERNATIONAL s1 (SKY WITNESS)
I think International might be my favourite of all the FBI shows. Again, they’ve assembled a great on-screen team and I love that there’s a new location in every episode. You get guest appearances from other characters in the franchise too, which ties it all together,
LAW AND ORDER SVU s19-20 (5USA)
In my top five TV shows of all time, I rewatch SVU every year. I can’t find it streaming anywhere so I record old episodes on 5USA and Sky Witness! However, it’s just pot luck of which seasons are on. I want to start it from the beginning so I’m looking at buying the DVDs online too!
MOVIES
Now TV is wrapped up, let’s look at the films/one-offs that I watched in January and February.
BOMBSHELL THE MUSICAL CONCERT (YOUTUBE)
If you’ve followed me online for a while, you’ll know that I love musicals. Smash was a TV show that I adored back in the day and wish it had been on the air for longer! The concert they produced of the musical produced on the show is a favourite of mine. It was such a great tribute and fingers crossed that the musical gets on stage at some point!
HAMILTON (DISNEY+)
Another musical, duh! I downloaded Hamilton to watch on my London trip because I was sad I didn’t get lottery tickets for the show! It’s a great example to show people of how pro-shots can encourage people to go to the theatre. I mean, everyone who’s seen it wants to watch the show live!
LEGALLY BLONDE (ITV2)
It’s now hard to watch the film without wanting to add the songs from the musical into the storyline! The film is a classic and is one of the best chick flicks ever made. It’s been a while since I’ve watched it too and I’d forgotten just how good it is!
SPRING AWAKENING: THOSE YOU’VE KNOWN (SKY ARTS)
I’ve never seen the musical but know of it. In fact, I first learned about it from watching 90210 as it was the production they did in season 1. Since then, I’ve listened to the soundtrack multiple times and would love to see it on stage. I mostly watched the documentary for Skylar Astin. Also, I used to think Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff’s friendship was lovely but after seeing this documentary, they’re far too close.
SONDHEIM’S OLD FRIENDS CONCERT (BBC)
Classic musical theatre is something I’m always learning about. As I’ve got older, learning about Stephen Sondheim and the genius that he was has made me intrigued to see more of his work. You know I’m a huge fan of West Side Story already but his work in the 60s, 70s, and 80s is classic Sondheim. Beautiful melodies and lyrics but so hard to sing! This concert was a gorgeous tribute to a talented and popular man.
ON BROADWAY DOCUMENTARY (SKY ARTS)
I recorded this on a whim and really enjoyed it. It featured more about the history of Broadway than I thought it would. I learned a tonne too so it was very educational. If only the documentary was a little longer, an hour and a half isn’t anywhere near long enough. There were lots of celeb cameos (and James Corden, yawn) and a BTS of a new play, The Nap. That play is based in Sheffield so I was completely unimpressed by the American versions of a Yorkshire accent!
Did you enjoy my blog post what I watched in Jan & Feb 2023? I think I’ll start posting them every two months because it was fun to recap!
