Spring is here, finally! I don’t know about you but it’s the perfect time to take stock of where you are for the year and have a bit of a fresh start. Here are 12 reasons why I’m looking forward to spring!
Brighter mornings + days
I’ve struggled to get up earlier and feel motivated when the weather is crap during winter. Now spring is here, the mornings are brighter so it’s easier to wake up at 7am (sometimes earlier). It also helps that the days and evenings are brighter too so I feel safe making plans late afternoon and early evening. Sunlight is a must for me because even though I’m a winter person, I’m a hermit. Simply standing at a window for a few minutes instantly improves my mood.
Feeling like a reset/fresh start
I love any excuse to hit the reset button and spring is ideal timing for one! There’s something so motivating about seeing the sunlight for longer periods of time and the improving weather. You might want to redo your fitness routine to get outside more, start a wellness challenge like 75 Soft or Project Me, or try your hand at weekly meal prepping. Whatever it is, now is the time to start. Just start!
The quarterly declutter
I do this at the new year but in spring, I can choose one area to really go in on. This year, it’s the spare room/my home office because it’s a hot mess. It’s been on my list since before Christmas but I’ve just learned to live in the mess. When I say mess, it’s just clutter more than anything and there’s just a lot of stuff in the room. My plan is to do it over the long Easter weekend (Thursday to Monday) because it may take me a few days!
Planning out my travel
Q1 is always quiet for travel but spring is when UK theatre tours start to ramp up so I’ve got my spreadsheet at the ready! I think most of my trips start from June but I might add in a few day trips here and there. However, a lot of it will hinge on me getting a full-time job or not! The idea will be to pencil stuff in and leave it to the last minute to book tickets/travel.
Redoing my morning/evening routines
I reset my two main routines every season because I want something a little different every time. Spring means waking up earlier and often getting out of bed straight away. I’m also getting ready straight away and sitting at my desk earlier. The way I see it, the earlier I get my client work done, the earlier I can work on my own stuff or relax! However, cosy vibes are a year-long action for me though so I’ll be reading in bed still and winding down at 9pm.
Getting more fresh air
I’m a massive hermit and only leave the house if absolutely necessary. However, spring makes me want to get some fresh air and sunlight on my Casper-shaded skin. Now I’ve signed up to the local library, I’ll need to visit at least every 3 weeks to return my books! There are also lots of new cafes and eateries in Hull right now and I want to try as many as possible. I’ll also be trying to walk around the village more but I find most people here to be very judgy and grumpy so headphones are a must!
Not having to wear 300 layers in the house
I’ll be glad to stop wearing thermals and my dressing gowns. I have so many short-sleeved tops that I’ve barely worn because I’m such a cold arse. It’s time for short sleeves, jackets and maybe even getting my legs out. Twit twoo. However, I do need some new additions to my wardrobe.
Creating my spring capsule
Every season, I create my capsule wardrobe that I live in for three months. I’ve been creating them for years but the end of March means my new capsule. I’ll be wearing these items until the end of June so three months is a good time to see if you actually wear what you’ve selected! One thing I do need to do is create a wishlist to see which pieces I’m missing.
Opening the windows daily
Because I don’t leave the house that much, the best way to get fresh air is to open up the windows. I just pray that the cast of A Bug’s Life doesn’t show up on the daily! It’s something I try to do every morning after I’ve got dressed and opened the blinds. Especially if I’m going to be at home all day, at least I’ll get a small amount of fresh air that day!
Getting to eat/drink my fave foods again
We’re talking ice cream, ice lollies, milkshakes, picnic food and discounted Easter chocolate (although my lactose intolerance isn’t a big fan). I’m not saying you can’t have these foods all year long but spring is when I start to want them more! Who doesn’t want a shit tonne of Mini Eggs (sometimes for breakfast)? I end up making myself a chocolate milkshake almost daily when the weather improves!
Hanging the washing outside
Peak adulting is being able to get washing washed and dried in one day, even better if you don’t have to use the dryer. Hanging washing outside usually makes it smell fresher too and is just better for your clothes, bedding and towels. It’s an excuse for me to take a break from work and get some fresh air for 10 minutes too!
Getting out and exploring
Whilst I love running errands on a weekend or being a hermit, I do enjoy getting out and exploring different places. Whether it’s a new coffee shop or a day trip to a nearby-ish town/city, just get out and explore your local area. Go for a countryside walk with a coffee or visit a small village pub. Whatever outdoor activity makes you happy, go out and do it!
And that’s just 12 reasons why I’m looking forward to spring! Although January was only a short time ago, it’s nice to spend some time resetting a little and enjoying the nicer (and hopefully, warmer) weather!
