It’s the end of the month, so it’s time for another monthly review. August was a quieter month for me, with no travelling or theatre. However, I still feel like I have a million things to do and working out what to prioritise is difficult! Here’s my August 2026 in review.
A JOB IN THE BALANCE
The company that I work for is currently in talks to shut around a third of their stores in the UK. In our store, we’re still yet to have a definitive answer. A lot of stores have had closure dates confirmed, but we’re yet to hear if we’re staying open for the foreseeable future or not. It’s a bit frustrating because it makes it difficult to plan anything around that. Do you move to another job with fewer hours and more job security? Do you stick it out and hope you stay open for a while and potentially get more hours? I’m always open to new opportunities, but I would really like to move out this year. If I remain in my job and get more hours, I’m looking at moving closer to work if my budget allows!
JOB SEEKING
With that being said, I’ve applied for a lot of jobs. I’ve made no bones about it that I want full-time hours. Ideally, I want to move back into a marketing role. However, I’ve been applying for other retail jobs too. It’s disheartening to get an unsuccessful email reply to an application, but I’d rather that than nothing at all! I’ve had a couple of interviews, one for a role in Hull and one in Harrogate. However, I pulled out of the Hull role with everything going on at my current job. I may return there as a Christmas temp if needed.
PROJECT 50 PROGRESS
I did a soft launch for Project 50 in my August goals post, and I’ve been making some little improvements here and there. I’ve done my first workout in forever (only managed one last week though), have been trying to cut back on snacking (have succeeded for the most part), upped my protein intake most days, and have kept on top of my beauty routines. On the flip side, I don’t drink enough water on my days off, my daily step count is down a little, and I’m inconsistent with taking my vitamins every day. From tomorrow, I’m going all in with the winter arc/lock-in challenge. I want to refocus on what really matters to me: health + fitness, my blog, and my business.
READING AS MY FAVOURITE HOBBY
I’ve cut down on the amount of TV that I’ve been watching, and tried to replace it with reading every night. I’m not perfect, but I got through eight books in August, which is two per week. I’ve read a lot of sports romances yet again, as well as a book about Project 333 (basically a capsule wardrobe book). I’ve caught up with all the Elle Kennedy books, reading her latest release this month. Also, I’ve unsubscribed from Kindle Unlimited as I have a TBR as long as my arm. I then proceeded to buy a bunch of 99p books over the last week. I need to read what I own already!
FOOTBALL IS BACK
Although rugby league is my favourite sport, I’m happy that the Premier League is back (and the WSL is on Friday, too). Arsenal kicked off the season with a 3-0 victory over Coventry, as we start our fight to become back-to-back champions. We’ve never won the Premier League two years on the bounce, so it looks like it might be our best chance. I’m writing this as we play Aston Villa tonight!
And that’s everything for my August 2026 in review blog post. As I said earlier, it’s been a pretty standard month. I’m excited to get September up and running though. I have a few theatre plans pencilled in, the winter arc challenge, and getting back into blogging again.
