Well, TGIF (Thank God It’s February) did not apply to my February because it was not the month for me. I had the worst cold for at least two weeks at the start of the month and even now, I still can’t shake a bit of a cough. However, there were some highlights in the month so let’s take a look at my February 2024 in review.
A LOT OF CAREER CHANGES
Right now, I’ve been applying for lots of full-time marketing roles. Whilst I love freelancing, I don’t love the inconsistent income and do miss being able to collaborate with other people. However, I won’t be taking up a full-time position if it’s not the right one. Ideally, it will be more remote than in-office because I do enjoy working from home and have the set-up too. I still want the role to be predominantly writing long-form content but I’m happy to dabble in other forms of content and marketing too. I’ve had two pre-interviews this month and one of them has turned into a full in-person interview. Fingers crossed because it seems like a great role!
ANOTHER CINEMA TRIP
I didn’t manage to visit as often as I’d have liked because of my cold (nobody wants someone coughing throughout an entire film). However, I did see one film in February: Mean Girls. I’ve seen a bunch of reviews, some love it and some hate it. I’m in the latter camp, I thought it was dreadful. Nearly every role to me was miscast. Renne was fab but she’s not a Regina to me. Auli’i was great but not a Janice. I think Renee is a Janice and Auli’i would’ve been a fab Cady. I adored Jaquel as Damian and Avantika was fairly good as Karen but that was it.
The less said about everyone else, the better. I was so disappointed because as a millennial, I adore the OG film and a musicals nerd, I love the musical’s soundtrack. I hated the new film’s soundtrack. The production was horrendous on basically every song! I highly doubt I’ll ever watch it again.
I SHOULD BE SO LUCKY PRESS NIGHT
This was a musical I was completely unsure of before my visit and I have to say, it’s the funniest musical I’ve ever seen. I’ve never laughed so much in a theatre (apart from at a comedian’s show) and I had such a great night. It wasn’t the fullest audience ever but they definitely made plenty of noise at the end to show their appreciation. Every member of the cast was crazy talented and I hope this show gets another UK tour at some point.
A DAY TRIP TO LEEDS
The other show I saw in February was Fantastically Great Women in Leeds (review coming soon). I only went the other day and it was nice to get out of Hull and out of the house! I might’ve spent a little too much in the M&S sale but I did try a new eatery. Leziza is in Kirkgate Market and I had the most incredible chicken biriyani for just £4! Genuinely, the dish was that big that I could only eat about 2/3 of it!
A SPORT-FILLED MONTH
Two of my favourite sports started up again in February: rugby league and F1. However, my favourite teams/athletes didn’t get off to the best starts (Hull FC and Lewis Hamilton). However, it’s a good time to be an Arsenal fan because both the men’s and women’s team ended the month well. Fingers crossed they can keep the gap to the top of the table minimal.
BACK IN MY READING ERA
It sounds silly but reading takes effort for me. I normally read on my Kindle but something just feels nice about having a paperback in your hands. Because I’ve been in a reading slump, I wanted to pick up a series that I was familiar with. That’s why I went back to my all-time fave, the I Heart books by Lindsey Kelk. I’ve managed to get through the first five and hope to read the last three in March.
21 NO-SPEND DAYS
I’m incredibly surprised that I managed this somehow but very proud that I did! I aimed for fifteen when I set my goal at the start of the month. My aim for every month was twenty but I said I wasn’t going to stick to it religiously. Not every month will be as low spend as February was but I definitely want to earn and save more!
And that’s a wrap on my February 2024 in review. It wasn’t the best month I’ve ever had but it’s set me up to have a decent month in March. I’m ready to have a bit of a reset and basically 2024 all over again! Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter and Instagram for more daily/weekly updates and I also now have TikTok! Be nice as I’m still learning the platform.
