I love Sundays. After my reset, I like to enjoy the evening by chilling out and relaxing in my bedroom. I’m sure I’m not the only one who spends extra time on their beauty routine before settling down with a book or TV box set. Here’s my ultimate at-home spa night.
THE EVERYTHING SHOWER
You know the one, it’s where you double shampoo, add a scalp treatment or a hair mask and shave if you want to. I have long hair so it takes longer than many
to wash. First off, if I’m home alone, I always pick an album to play. It’s usually Taylor Swift or Kelsea Ballerini because they’re the best artists to sing along to in the shower. If not, I choose the Hamilton or Six musical soundtracks. Once I’m in the shower, I’ll start with a clarifying shampoo before my regular shampoo and conditioner. Lately, I’ve been using the Aveeno apple cider vinegar clarify shampoo but usually, I reach for the Noughty Detox Dynamo clarifying shampoo.
When shaving, because of my eczema, I actually use shower gel instead of shaving gel or cream. I only use Sanex shower creams because they don’t make my skin itch. I only use the Venus extra smooth razor because it’s the only razor I’ve found that I like. When I’m finished, I smooth a thick layer of my eczema cream over my body after patting my body dry with fresh towels.
Because of my eczema, I have to use a mild cleanser every day. That means once a week, I like to use a stronger cleanser as an exfoliator to give my skin an even deeper clean. I use the e.l.f. Holy Hydration Daily Cleanser as I found it too strong for everyday use but enough for a weekly exfoliant. A little goes a long way so one bottle lasts me for months!
FRESH BEDDING + PYJAMAS
As soon as I’m moisturised, I need to get into clean pyjamas. They have to be a matching set and I’d say all of my current collection are from M&S. Their range is always 100% cotton and even the cheapest ones are great quality. Whilst I’ve tried to reduce the amount of stuff I own, I love to have a selection of pyjamas. Every time I visit an M&S, I always end up buying myself a new set.
One of my favourite things to do is put on a fluffy pair of socks. However, I put on this Sanctuary Spa heel balm to soften up my feet and pop a pair of socks on for overnight. I first got a mini of this product in a Christmas gift set but it’s amazing when you’ve been on your feet all day. Massaging it into my feet and then leaving it to do its magic overnight does miracles!
It’s even better when you have fresh bedding on too. I try to change my sheets every week but sometimes, I’m lazy and I leave them on longer. Sue me! I think most of my duvet sets are from Asda because again, they’re reasonably priced. However, my local Asdas have a pretty limited selection so I either buy them online or from out of town.
MY EXTRAVAGANT SKINCARE ROUTINE
Because I’ve cleansed in the shower, it means I can jump straight into serums, moisturisers and masks. Sometimes, I might just give my face a quick wipe with micellar water to make sure the cleanser is fully off my skin though.
Hyaluronic acid is a must for my dry and sensitive skin so of course, I mostly use The Ordinary’s version. I try to get the 120ml bottle but Boots never seem to have it in stock! I’ve tried other brands of hyaluronic acid serums but I always go back to this one.
Next is moisturiser, which I double up on because I have such dry skin. First up, I use the Boots Ingredients hyaluronic acid moisturiser before the Superdrug Vitamin E intense moisture cream. It might seem like a lot of moisturiser but my skin just laps it up. I like the Superdrug one because you barely need to use any of it so the tub lasts ages.
After that, I pop on some eye cream. The latest one I’ve been trying is Simple’s hydrating one and so far, I like it. I’m not sure I’ve ever found an eye cream that’s amazing but I’ll keep trying! I love an eye mask but I use the cheap gold ones that they sell in all the bargain shops. They’re like £1 for six pairs and if you put them back in the packaging, you can use them a couple of times.
I’m not a big fan of sheet masks as I struggle to get them to sit right on my face. Instead, I use the Boots Ingredients hyaluronic acid sleep mask and let me tell you, it’s amazing. My skin always feels soft and shiny when I wake up the next morning!
RELAXATION MODE
After drying my hair and putting it into a plait, I like to grab myself a snack, refill my water bottle and make myself a hot chocolate. I love adding vanilla or caramel syrup to give it a luxurious taste. Whilst I’d love to have a Velvetiser, I refuse to pay the price. Instead, I have a milk frother from Amazon and it’s worth the money. I use it daily if not twice a day, and this was my replacement after my last one broke. Sometimes I’ll add marshmallows if I’m feeling extra fancy and always in my favourite large purple mug.
Next, I put on a film or box set. Sometimes I just continue watching the box set I’ve already been watching. Other times, I stick on a chick flick or a musical, especially on a Sunday night. Right now, I’ve just finished rewatching Gossip Girl and now I’m back on Chicago Fire from the beginning. And yes, I still watch DVDs because I’m old-fashioned.
Before bed, I like to read for at least half an hour every night. I only read chick lit or the occasional non-fiction. Right now, I’m reading Hannah Grace’s Heartbreaker series. I know I’m late to the party but I’m enjoying the series so far.
I’ll admit that I don’t always have time for this routine every Sunday. Sometimes, I’ll do this on a random Wednesday night because why not? My ultimate at-home spa night doesn’t have to be just for Sundays.
