It’s been 87 years… since January started. Usually, I love January: a fresh start, my birthday, and usually some travel. However, this year, it’s just felt very long and I’ve been pretty low on energy. There have been some highlights though so here’s my January 2025 in review.
2025 RESET
If there’s anything that I love, it’s a reset. My New Year reset is probably my favourite, that’s why I spend all of December and half of January doing it all. For me, New Year doesn’t really start until after the 14th because of my birthday. However, January was a bit of a mixed bag so February seems like another reset!
MY 32ND BIRTHDAY
It was a very quiet birthday this year and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t in the mood for it this year. Normally, I love my birthday but as you get older, you start to notice more. I don’t have a lot of people in my life anymore and I’m definitely not where I thought I would be at this point in my life. However, after a day of chilling on the sofa, I felt like I had a bit of a shift in my mindset and definitely felt better after some reflection!
SHEFFIELD TRIP
To celebrate my birthday, I booked an overnight stay in Sheffield. I spent the Friday at Meadowhall and spent some money but not as much as I thought I would! Other than a couple of bits in M&S and some birthday freebies/vouchers, it was fairly low-spend. In the evening, I saw Little Shop of Horrors at the Crucible. It definitely wasn’t a traditional take on the musical but I enjoyed it all the same. The vocals, costuming and visual effects in particular were all out of this world!
A NEW JOB
So the most exciting news in January is that I’ve got a new job. Originally, it was meant to be a full-time role but it’s actually a three-day freelance role instead. It actually works out better for me because it means I can still keep my existing clients and maybe get more if I have the capacity to. I’ll actually be making a return to sports journalism as the new job is writing for a rugby league website. I start in just over a week but I’m excited to write about my favourite sport for a living and be paid for it this time!
21 NO-SPEND DAYS
After my reset, I set up my month of January and in particular, my budget. January is usually a high-spend month for me with my birthday and tax bill but I’m happy that I was under budget. That included 21 no-spend days, which is amazing! The downside is that I didn’t save anywhere near as much as I wanted to. That was because I didn’t make as much money as I wanted to. My main issue was starting a Project Pan year and then buying toiletries, oops!
STARTING 75 SOFT
This past week, I’ve tried to do a practice version of 75 Soft but because I’ve had a lot going on, I’ve not been too successful. I plan on starting it fully on Monday 3rd February, even though the plan was to start in January. I’m okay with all my healthy habits, other than daily movement. Why is it such a struggle? I used to be such a gym bunny and then home workout fanatic so I’d love to get back to the latter.
And that’s a wrap on my January 2025 in review. Whilst I didn’t really achieve my goals (come back on Monday), I’ve had some great moments, especially getting a job and getting out of Hull for a night.
