I might have accidentally missed a month but it just makes for a longer blog post. Maybe you’ll find something that takes your fancy on this list! Here’s what I watched in February + March 2024.
FILMS WATCHED
I’ve decided to split my watchlist into three categories now, the first being films watched. These can be at the cinema or at home. You all know I’m trying to use my Odeon pass as much as I can but the film selection hasn’t been that great for what I watched in February + March 2024.
MEAN GIRLS
I cannot stress just how bad I thought this movie was. I’m probably not its target audience because it felt very Gen Z to me but it just wasn’t good at all. Obviously, I’m a huge fan of the original movie but the stage musical soundtrack is probably in my top five of all time. I thought most of the casting was wrong. Renee Rapp should’ve played Janis and Auliʻi Cravalho could’ve been a great Janice. Both have great vocals but I don’t think they were the right fit for Regina or Janice respectively.
Other than Jaquel Spivey as Damian and Avantika Vandanapu as Karen, I was less than impressed with everyone else. Fancy casting two people as Cady and Aaron who can’t even sing?! Also, Gretchen was forgettable. They cut out most of the good songs and I hated most of the new arrangements, apart from Someone Gets Hurt because that scene cinematically was phenomenal. It sounds silly but it wasn’t different enough from the original to be good yet it didn’t feel like a proper movie musical either. I hope to never see this again.
THE HOLDOVERS
Luckily, I did see a great film at the cinema and it was The Holdovers. It had me feeling just about every emotion: sadness, happiness, humour. In fact, I actually laughed out loud at multiple scenes, someone actually told me to shut up because I howled. Said person fell asleep during the movie so they can stfu. For a small cast, they all command the screen whenever they’re on it. Plus the chemistry between the three main leads felt so genuine. It’s weird because you hate and love the characters at the same time, apart from Da’Vine Joy Randolph because she’s a gem.
TAYLOR SWIFT: THE ERAS TOUR (DISNEY+)
Of course, I had to watch the Eras Tour again and it’s a cinematic masterpiece. Every part of the production is exceptional along with Miss Swift. My main issue is that I took three toilet breaks in the nearly four-hour film. How am I meant to survive when I see it at Wembley in August? Maybe I’ll wear one of those adult nappies because I always need to drink lots of water.
SHOWS WATCHED
Category two is all of the TV shows I’ve watched over the last month (or two, in this case). I watch far more TV than films because it’s usually background noise on a more chilled work day. Also. I watch TV most weekday nights for at least three hours! It’s not healthy but it makes me happy so I don’t care!
DCC: MTT s5-16 (MTV)
I’ve got through every season once again in two months! I’ve spent most dinner hours watching two episodes so ten a week is usually about one season. You all know that usually I hate reality TV but if there’s dance involved, I’m usually in! This and Dance Moms are the two reality shows that I’ve loved (along with The Hills). And yes, I know many of the dance routines because I’ve seen every season at least five times.
GREY’S ANATOMY s4-7 (DVD)
It’s not a show that I get through quickly because 24 episodes is a lot. I usually only manage about half a season a week but the earlier seasons of Grey’s Anatomy are much easier to get through, It’s obviously an emotional show but my favourite parts are usually the funny moments. Some scenes and stories have me laughing so loudly, especially in the early seasons!
SVU s14-15 (5USA)
I would’ve watched more seasons of SVU but I’ve seen every season in the past couple of years that it felt a little like deja vu. I’m going to try to watch the last season or so again because I can’t remember what happened lately! Of course, I adore the show but UK channels only seem to show the later seasons. I want to watch it from the beginning again!
THE PUSH: MURDER ON THE CLIFF (CHANNEL 4)
Recently, I’ve gone through a phase of watching murder documentaries again. This was a case that I knew absolutely nothing about, even though it only happened three years ago. It was a horrific case and a sad loss of a young woman’s life at the hands of a controlling man. Fawziyah Javed was killed because her husband was a despicable man. Fawziyah’s family were so brave for allowing cameras to follow them during the trial.
SOHAM: THE MURDER OF HOLLY AND JESSICA (CHANNEL 5)
This is the one case that will always stick with me forever. When Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman went missing, I was just a year or so younger than them and it was a terrifying case. In fact, my dad always watches crime documentaries with me but he refuses to watch anything about this case. It was even scarier because it was the school holidays and we were just glued to the TV praying for positive updates. I thought I knew just about everything with this case and even I learned quite a lot from this documentary.
SHOWS WATCHING
This time of year is my favourite because all of my favourite US shows are back on UK screens! One Chicago is back on Sky Witness now and The Rookie is returning soon (I hope). Here’s the handful of shows that I’m currently watching for my what I watched in February + March 2024 watchlist.
FBI SEASON 6
The FBI universe is my other favourite universe, other than One Chicago. I love how each series is independent but I do enjoy the crossovers and appearances from other shows at random. I’m really hoping we get more OA-centric episodes as well as featuring Jubal more because they’re my two favourite characters.
FBI: INTERNATIONAL SEASON 3
Now this is the FBI show that I binged the quickest yet now I’m so mad because the best character has left! Jamie and Scott were my biggest ship from all of the shows I watched so I’m gutted she’s gone. I’d say this is my favourite cast overall from the franchise and I love the teamwork.
FBI: MOST WANTED SEASON 5
This is the show with the most changes. It seems like once you get to like a character, they leave or get killed off. Now Nina from FBI has moved across and Ray Cannon is staying, it might pick up. I’m not the biggest fan of Remy as a leader. Maybe because I associate him with Law & Order: Organized Crime where he plays a very convincing baddie!
THE GREAT STAND UP TO CANCER BACK OFF SEASON 7
Not having Bake Off on our screens makes me sad because it’s the one thing that unites us as a country! However, the Stand Up to Cancer celebrity version is just as funny. Mostly because most of the celebs are horrendous at baking but occasionally, there’s a decent baker amongst a series.
If you enjoyed what I watched in February + March 2024, you can find my other TV round-ups here. I post them every month (or merge two in one if I forget) because I watch a lot of TV! Don’t forget you can follow me on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok too!
