As you all know, I watch a lot of TV, especially when I’m in a funk. It’s probably my favourite hobby as it’s an escapism from the shitshow of my life lately. Here’s what I watched in Q3 2024, from new TV to rewatches of box sets.
Law and Order season 1-3
Because I’ve just about every SVU episode, I thought I’d go a little retro and go back to the original series. I’m sure I’ve seen the occasional episode but 5USA have been showing it during the day from the beginning. I’ve been making good use of the Sky+ box for sure! Even back in the 90s, they took on some pretty ‘modern’ topics (not always done well, I’ll admit) but many episodes have resonated with me.
GBBO season 2, 10, 11 and 15
Similarly, I also record old Bake Off episodes during the week and on a weekend because it’s my favourite comfort show. It’s one of the few TV shows we watch as a family actually! Comparing the older seasons’ bakes with the more current ones is such a massive difference. I’ll admit I’ve not been watching season 15 live, just a day or two later. I’m obsessed with Nelly, she seems like such good fun!
The West Wing seasons 1-3
I’ve been in a bit of a 90s/early 00s nostalgia kick lately and it shows in my TV choices! It’s been my evening show of choice for a while because I can’t watch it and be multi-tasking. It moves so fast and they talk so fast that I have to pay proper attention to it! I do prefer the earlier seasons as you get to know more about what happens BTS at the White House and it’s definitely been educational.
Gilmore Girls season 1
As soon as autumn hit on 21st September, I was on the Gilmore Girls train once again. I’ve seen it a bunch of times but it’s always my go-to show for autumn. The earlier seasons are perfect because every character is likeable; the writers ruined so many characters towards the latter seasons! I always forget how hilarious it is, despite many dated parts.
Glee season 3
I’ve rewatched up to the best parts because once the original group leaves McKinley, it goes downhill. I don’t mind season 4 (mostly for Rachel’s style) but the storylines get even more bonkers. Season 3 has some of the best covers though: Rumour Has It/Someone Like You, Survivor/I Will Survive, Smooth Criminal, How Will I Know, Roots Before Branches and the entire Nationals setlist.
The Rookie season 6
For some reason, it’s taken me months to watch the final few episodes. It’s just felt like some storylines have dragged on too long, others are boring and some are just totally ridiculous. I also wish they’d stop messing with Bradford and Chen and just let them live happily ever after.
Strictly Come Dancing
I’ve fallen out of love with Strictly massively in the last two years but I do still watch it. It just means that I don’t always watch it live so no longer live tweet along with the show. Again, I’ve been impressed with lots of the celebs this year and there’s a bunch that are naff as usual.
Path to Paris/Meet the Paralympians
As I said in my Q3 review, I became obsessed with the Olympics and Paralympics, which led me to watching this Channel 4 documentary. I watched hours upon hours of live coverage as well as recording the highlights every night. The documentaries followed a handful of Team GB athletes in their preparation for the Games across different sports and events. It was a nice insight into just how hard these athletes all work and how much they sacrifice across the board!
America’s Sweethearts
Yes, I’ve already rewatched the DCC documentary. In fairness, I’m having a break from rewatching Making the Team for the 1000th time so it’s made a nice change! I still wish we got more of an insight because as a former dancer, I’m more interested in the dance side.
I also watched a few true crime documentaries (Merseyside Detectives, The Search for Nicola Bulley, and The Abduction of Milly Dowler). I’m so sick of women being murdered by awful men but it doesn’t seem like we can do a great deal to change a damn thing.
And that’s a wrap on what I watched in Q3 2024. It seems like a lot but I mostly have it on as background noise during the work day or in an evening when I’m in bed. Of course, I watched my usual sports too!
