This list will seem extensive when in fact, I’ve actually just completed a bunch of US shows. It’s a pain that we get them so late in the UK, especially when the new seasons start in the autumn. However, I enjoy watching a weekly episode like the olden days! Here’s what I watched in June 2024.
Grey’s Anatomy s15-17
I’m nearing the end of my annual Grey’s Anatomy rewatch and right now, I’m done with the box sets I own. Now I need to get back onto Disney+ to continue. I’ll admit the later seasons aren’t my favourites but I do enjoy the Covid season. It definitely highlights the realities during that time and I know people find it depressing to relive it, I find it insightful into how the healthcare system dealt with it.
FBI s6
So all of my American shows have finished on UK TV and I’m finally up to date with them all. This season of FBI wasn’t my favourite. Sure, I enjoyed some storylines and episodes but it feels like they’ve already started to recycle plots. I liked seeing every character get their own story and episode though and especially enjoyed OA finding romance (that isn’t Maggie) and Isobel’s episode.
FBI International s3
This used to be my favourite of all the FBI series but I’m not so sure anymore. Without Scott, who had a disappointing ending, the team doesn’t feel the same. However, I did think Colin Donnell was a great addition to the final couple of episodes. His character was very different to Scott’s but I enjoyed that change in dynamic. However, I am super excited for my TV husband, Jesse Lee Soffer, to join the show in season four. He’ll always be Jay Halstead to me but I hope he gets to play an agent with a different personality.
FBI Most Wanted s5
I’ve actually enjoyed this season as I find Remy is a good leader now he’s found his feet. I’m also a big fan of Nina’s addition as I enjoyed her character on FBI. One storyline I haven’t enjoyed is Hannah’s new ‘friend’. He seems way too old to be a love interest and for some reason, I find him a little shifty.
Glee s1
I know lots of people find Glee cringey and dated (which it is in places) but I still love the show. It definitely tackled some tough subjects and let’s face it, every member of the cast is super talented. Sure, it’s hard to watch with so many cast member deaths but I also appreciate their talents. Naya and Cory were great actors and really made us love Santana and Finn. However, I still wish Mr Schu would never rap; I often skip over those songs because they’re the cringiest!
America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders
If you’ve followed me for a while or read my previous TV round-ups, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of the DCC. When I saw Netflix had a new documentary about them, I was totally on board. I’m kind of on the fence with it. I’m glad to see them on my screen again but there are so many issues. Firstly, the low pay makes me so bloody angry. Yes, they get quite a lot of perks (free beauty treatments, free gifts like an influencer) but the pay for rehearsals, appearances and games is still far too low. These women work their asses off to be one of 36 and should be paid as such.
I wish we got to see more dancing as that’s the reason I first started watching the OG show and they should have featured more cheerleaders instead of just a few. I’ve always been a Kelsey fan and admire how she juggles her career and cheerleading, it was interesting to see Caroline’s plans (or lack of) now she’s retired and Victoria’s arc was definitely interesting to me. I don’t hate her but she’s had a lot of trolling online (some constructive, some cruel) pre-Netflix. She’s a very talented young woman but she’s been so sheltered and primed for the DCC world that now she needs to figure out her own life without it.
Chicago Med s9
Again, I’m not crazy about the later seasons on Med, purely because characters only seem to last a season or two nowadays. Ripley has been a great addition in my opinion but I’m sure he won’t last much longer as I like him! Some of the medical cases this year were super interesting and often had an ethical or moral dilemma to them, such as the prisoner with Alzheimer’s.
Chicago Fire s12
With Sylvie and Chief Boden going, it’s sort of become the Kidd-Severide show, which is okay for me but not great. Again, some of the incidents were super interesting and the addition of the new characters is good. I particularly like the new paramedic but some firefighters don’t seem to be lasting very long. I hope they don’t mess with Cruz and Chloe’s marriage because they’re perfect together!
Chicago PD s11
There was something about this season that fell completely flat to me. It felt very Haley-heavy, which I understand because she’s leaving, but I’m not her biggest fan. Since her divorce, I’d have loved her to thrive on her own like she was prior to marrying Halstead but she’s become so different. I’m glad we got more Attwater storylines as he’s grossly underused. I only keep watching for him, Burgess and Ruzek because I love those OGs!
DCC:MTT s4
Yes, after watching the new Netflix show, I’m rewatching the original show yet again. It’s a great background show to watch when I’m working from the sofa. I’m happy that MTV finally has the rights to it in the UK so I’m just recording every season and leaving them on my Sky+ box to watch over and over again. Expect me to keep watching them all year long!
Center Stage
In June, I watched my favourite movie of all time yet again. It’s just my comfort movie and I always stick it on when I need a motivation kick. I watch it at least twice a year! However, I grew up watching it every weekend and I’m still not sick of it. The best part is they mostly used dancers, rather than actors, which comes across in the filming. Also, Charlie was my first true love.
That’s a wrap on what I’ve watched in June 2024. I love having a mixture of shows to watch on regular telly, a DVD box set and something to stream. Do I watch a lot of TV? Yes. Do I have anything else to do? Also yes. Will I keep watching this much TV because I enjoy it? Absolutely!
