Well, March has been a bit of a bummer for me, mostly due to work (more on that in a minute). However, I’m really trying to find some highlights in everyday life! Let’s get straight into my March 2024 in review.
THE JOB HUNT
As most of you will know, I’ve been freelancing for about three and a half years. However, I’ve got to a point where I love what I do but I’m not sure it’s sustainable for what I want in life right now. I’m desperate to have my own place and my freelance income is up and down every single month. I just want a consistent monthly wage. That’s why I’ve been applying for a range of jobs. I’m hoping to get something mostly remote or in Hull so I can save up and move out soon.
However, I’ve had one in-person interview and been ghosted (that was three weeks ago) as well as a couple of phone/video interviews and also been ghosted. I had another one this week and I’m waiting to hear back over the next few days. If you’ve had a formal interview, it should be a requirement that you get back to the interviewee with a yes or no answer.
It’s also frustrating getting declined for jobs before an interview. I’ve got more experience than I imagine a lot of candidates have but I imagine it’s because I’m freelance right now. I’m someone who interviews pretty well too so if only I could just get to that stage!
SHREK PRESS NIGHT
I’ve only managed to get to the theatre once in March (life happens) but it was a real treat. Shrek is one of the best touring productions I’ve seen for a while. As someone who likes the movie but wouldn’t say she’s the biggest fan, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was actual laugh-out-loud comedy and everything from the music to the costuming and, of course, the cast was exceptional. The tour’s not on for much longer but it is in London over the summer. I hope to see it again someday!
ANOTHER CINEMA TRIP
I’ve not used my Odeon pass as much as I’d like again but that’s just what happens. This month, I managed to see The Holdovers. For a film that’s not my normal sort of film, it was outstanding. Normally, I just watch rom-coms or musicals. The Holdovers is a phenomenal piece of cinema and I have to say, the cast and script were two of the strongest I’ve seen for ages.
THE ERAS TOUR ON DISNEY+
I treated myself to a Sunday movie night and spent the three and a half hours watching the Eras Tour on Disney+. I had about three toilet breaks and was out of breath from singing after two songs. How on earth will I be able to get through standing for over six hours? Eras Tour BootCamp will be commencing soon! Other than that, it’s such an amazing show. My only complaint is I want more older stuff (Debut through to Red) and shorter sets for folklore/evermore. I love these songs on a record but many fall a bit flat as a live performance for me. Just my opinion!
US TV SHOWS BACK ON IN THE UK
I didn’t even realise that lots of my fave shows were back on in the UK in March/April. FBI, Law & Order, One Chicago and Grey’s Anatomy should all be on UK screens soon if they’re not already. Every time I find an illegal stream of them, it disappears so I have to watch them on regular telly instead. To say I want to get out of the house more, I have a lot of TV to catch up on now! I’m also halfway through my Grey’s Anatomy rewatch.
STARTING 75 SOFT
Before officially starting, I had a trial fortnight starting on the 18th. I’m pleased to say that I stuck to most of my healthy habits every day on my 75 Soft challenge but workouts are still such a struggle. I’ve become so unfit! I managed 10 minutes of exercise on the Monday and that was it for the week. My second week didn’t improve much on the exercise front either so we start again in April!
MY NEW DESK
As a treat to myself after my best month of freelancing for 2024, I thought it was about time that I upgraded my desk. I’m pretty sure I’ve had my current desk for about 15 years. It was a glass top one from the Range, which I decorated a few years ago with a white marble sticky-back plastic top. Now I’m the proud owner of a standing desk and hope to be a little bit more active now. I’m hoping to add in a few more desk accessories as I just need to freshen up my working environment.
And that’s everything for my March 2024 in review. It’s been a struggle but I’m hoping to get things moving along in Q2, especially with work and my health. Spring definitely feels like a fresh start so I feel a little more motivated than usual/
